Wow, Tony. Big move there. Good luck with it. Have you considered pushing further west? I would love to live in Idaho or SE Montana.

Strictly talking bowhunting here. Missouri's tags for res and non res are over the counter and not too expensive for non res.

IL is over the counter for res and lottery for non res. Res prices are cheap and they really stick it to non res.

Iowa, not sure about res tags, but non res are hard to come by. You have to build up points for a few years to even get one and pretty pricy too.

So depending on where you want to hunt and how much you want to pay for it, choose wisely.:deer:

I'd head mid-west in a heart beat. On my return trip from IL I asked the Mrs if she was ready to move.

BUT, Tony, you better visit before you move farther away!

Here's a little thing Denny and I talked about when we were in IL, small town. There was a pile of firewood for sale. Above it was a sign, a bucket and a deposit box for a help yourself buy. We made comment when we got gas how honest that is.

We said in PA, the wood would be gone, the bucket would be gone, the sign taken and the deposit box ripped from the pole. :bash:

I can't speak intelligently about any state except MO, and some would argue that but........Missouri is pretty cool. Very diverse in it's landscape and weather. Summer does get pretty hot, but the humidity is the kicker. Where I am, we generally break 100* 5-10 days a year, sometimes more, sometimes less, but that's a good average. The weather changes all the time here. There's a phrase us Missourians have, "If you don't like the weather now, wait 5 minutes, it will change."

Very good deer hunting, especially north of I70. Our conservation department is quite good, and public hunting land is abundant, with much of it containing very good deer hunting. During the bow season, pressure is relatively low, but that depends on which piece of ground you are on. We also have many management hunts you can apply for, but only 1 per year. If you aren't drawn, you get your name in the hat twice next year, 3 after that..so on and so on. These management hunts are above and beyond regular season bag limit. The limit of deer you can take on them varies with the area. I know of a couple that you can shoot 4 does and 1 buck. Some 3 does, some 1 of each.....it just depends.

There's good fishing to be found here as well. Smallmouth are farily abundant in some of the rivers, which can all be fished publicly.

Missouri really is quite diverse in every aspect. Some farming communities, some indusrial, some have positively nothing. Churches abound. In my town of 13000, I'm not sure I can even tell you how many churches there are. I must tell you though, the county that borders me was rated #1 in the nation for methamphetimine production a few years ago. Springs are fairly wet, normally. Summers are hot and humid, normally, but not super hot. Winters are cold, but not horribly cold. Snow has been limited the last several years. We only had 1 measurable snow this past winter. Springs are GORGEOUS and fall is even better.

We can kill 3 bucks per year. 2 archery, 1 firearm. Most of the state offers unlimited doe tags, but not everywhere. Spring turkey allows for 2 turkey, as well as 2 archery and 2 firearm in the fall.

Downside? All there is, other than small game, is deer and turkey. No bear. No Moose. No elk. Deer, turkey and small game is it. The northern part of the state offers good pheasant hunting, and the quail population is on the rebound.

The biggest thing I don't like is the weather. It is so completely unpredictable, and it changes all the damn time. Tornados do hit the state here and there, but if one were coming to missouri to be a storm chaser, they would be sorely disappointed.

Ohio is a great state. But, it is being hit hard with the car industry lay offs. Is your full time job preaching? Can you relocate through your church affiliation? Michigan is being hit even harder, if I understand correctly. If I would move from here I'd go to Alaska where my cousins live. Or, Wyoming where some of my best friends live.

VA is nice, not nearly as hot as NC on count of the Mountains, but I wouldn't come here in the SW though, we have nothing. More towards Franklin county, "Roanoke" area is nice. Lots of deer out in those counties too.

I moved from Ill to Wi. Cheaper living costs, insurance, gas, real estate, license plates. Plenty of public lakes/woods. The big question is, what line of work are you in? I know that you're a preacher, but is that what u do exclusively for a living? One good thing if you do move out here, you'll be closer for the annual GTG.

    res tags = $26.00
    land owner tags = $4.00

MO is nice but you'd have to lose some teeth to fit in:d

As for the rest on Iowa, I already told you brother.

Illinois sucks and it gets suckier on a nearly daily basis (particularly on a Daley basis).

I'm seriously looking to move over to MO. KY looks good too.

I lived in WI for a year. That was enough for me. Beautiful state but nearly as bad as Illinois when it comes to stupid laws and stupid cities controlling the state.

I've lived in North Dakota too, and it was kind of neat... but it was like 8 months of constant freezing temperatures. :( It amazes me that all those Norweigians came all the way to the states from their cold frozen wasteland home country... just to settle in more frozen wasteland. ;)

dare I ask???? Ok Dan ...What does IOWA stand for?:d

There is a chance we may could up there if The Lord would move us in that direction ..... we would like to work with, or start an orphanage ... just something we have been praying about.

Yep ... not out of the question ..... gotta consider the wife as well, so I need to look into the whole shabang with those 2 states ... it's funny you mention them, we just talked about them last might in bed

Hopefully this summer some time, Rob :d

Sunset and In Da Woods, I currently am full time as an Assistant Pastor of our church..I am the Administrator/Principal/Teacher of our CHristian school. I need to leave my current church due to some things that have happened with the other leadership.

I have 8 years in sheet metal fabrication
7 years Fixed operations Director in a multi-franchised dealership
    11 years in the ministry

I would be looking to get a job in one of those 3 areas AND looking for a good church to serve in ......

    I think I covered everyone :d

Tony, I'd take a serious look at Kentcuky. Good deer hunting, warmer than Buffalo, still some snow, and good people. As an added bonus, you could always run moonshine as a part time gig. ;)

Kentucky added to the list .... good fishing there too, I think the world record smallmouth comes from there ....
