After seeing the amazing pictures that some of you take with a hand held camera, I was looking for ANY and all advice you can give me on a camera.

I do not have thousands to spend, so I guess I am looking for the best I can get for the lowest price....

Please keep in mind, I do not know much about cameras at all .... total neophyte ...

I've always been a canon guy, but there are a ton of good cameras out there. Your budget will be you biggest choice or limiting factor.

One of the cheaper Canons is the T3. You can find them new for $400 with a kit lens or even two lenses for another $50.

Stepping up a bit you could look at the T3i or the SL1. You can find kits in the $600-800 range with these cameras. The biggest difference in these two is the SL1 is a smaller bodied camera and allow AF during video.

Careful, this can be just as expensive (or more) than bowhunting :tu:

The nice things about these cameras, is you can start cheap and get a few lenses. Then when/if you upgrade your camera body, you can still use the same lenses.

Thanks, Mike! That's a great place to start my research :)

Adorama has the T3 with two different lenses and other kit items for just a hair over $400 right now Tony! I was gonna grab that until Canon direct refurb store has the T3i for around that. Just gonna get lenses separate. But the T3 kit deal on Adorama is freaking tough to beat.

Me and Isaac went with a Sony Nex5r to learn the ropes. It's not quite as capable as the DSLR's but the image quality is just as good.

When I started with my DSLR I didn't have much money. I bought a Pentax camera. I actually love the thing. It takes awesome pictures - though many don't suggest them. Just another brand to look into!
