    Hi everyone,

I am in search of my first bow. I shoot left handed and the local shop showed me a Hoyt Vectrix today, the only left handed bow they had. It seemed nice enough but I decided to look into things a bit. After coming home and searching the internet, I realized the Vectrix is an older bow and then realized the dealer had the bow listed on Craigslist, Bows Hoyt Vectrix left hand bow . Is it a good deal or should I look into something else? It is well below what I thought I would spend, I was thinking around $600-$700 all set up. Is the new bows in that range that much better? I'm a little lost at this point with everything I have been reading.

One final note, I have a 12 yr old and with the Vectrix not being adjustable I'm not sure that's a good option down the road. But then again I don't know if i should be looking at it that way either.

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I'm going to assume both of you are left handed.
Your going to have to drive a bit and try out as many bows as you can.
There's nothing wrong with buying a used bow from a shop as long as they'll stand behind it. Most shops that deal with used bows won't put anything up there they wouldn't shoot themselves.
They don't want the bad word of a bow blowing up that came out of there shop.
Some shops won't sell them for that reason.

I'm not far from your situation. I'll tell you what I and my 15yo did for our first bows.

I bought my daughter a Diamond infinite Edge Lefty bow. We talked it over and went with that bow because of it's adjustability. Draw weight adjustable from 5 to 70lbs. Being a teenager who is still growing and gaining strength rapidly, that made the most sense to us. She could conceivably use that bow her entire life and never out grow what it is capable. We bought it as a ready to shoot package for $350. Bear, Mathews and PSE all have similar bows with same range of adjustability if brand name is an issue.

That would leave you about $450 of your originally stated budget to buy a bow for yourself. I got a PSE Stinger G3 for right at $400 ready to shoot. There are a ton of quality bows out there in that price range.

It's worked out well for us to each have our own bow to practice with.
Just one guys opinion, Hope that helped.

I got a bear mauler last season set up ready to shoot and I love it I found it with draw weights adjustable from 40-70 lbs and the DL was really adjustable to and not a bad package set up. Killed my first deer with it tuesday afternoon

With your situation I agree with the Diamond Infinite Edge option. But probably the best advice i was ever given is to shoot as many bows as you can. You'll know the one for you with just a couple of shots. Best of luck to you.
