Hello all, I am new to bow hunting but have found 2 things. 1.It is much harder than it looks and 2.shooting for 4 hours learning how to shoot is not a good idea. So now 2 days later I still cant pull the bow back. Now on to my question. I am looking for an expandable broad head that shoots closest to a feild tip. I have got very good with field tip but am being told that the broad heads will not shoot like a field tip. I found an sanford expanDEAD that clames to be close but they were out of stock. Can anyone let me in on some personial favorites that shoot like a field tip. Thanks for any and all. Mike
I know alot of people on here dont seem to like them, but i would go with a 2 blade rage. They fly just like fieldpoints. I never have had to resight since I started using them. Plus, the rage leaves a devastating hole. Most deer fall in sight. Thats just my opinion though. Good luck.
Follow the steps in this guide and you can get your broadheads at the same POI as the field tips. Easton Tuning Guide
Depends on how far and thick the brush is around you. Shot one with the rage and one with the swacker last year. Shot one with a stinger and it did not make it 30 yards. It was even hit further back. Going to try the "grizzly tricks" fixed this year. I cannot let then ru
to many variables what is your: draw length draw weight what type of arrows are you shooting do you know how much your arrow weighs typically the rage does fly close to a field point I have used them for a few deer. But if you are only shooting 40#'s at 25" of draw then no mech blade is really going to be good for you. I would first follow GA bowhunters advice and set up your bow properly then worry about your broadheads.
Well- let's try this agian-computer went off because of these damn fires down here-i don't know how much you got-depending on the thickness and amount of brush, i would still think about a fixed blade. I have tried both the rage 2 blade and swhacker. I did not find either deer, both hit in the shoulder, no penetration at 35 yards (an old mathews featherlight at 60 lbs) a stinger brought one down, and it did'nt go 35 yards, even hitting it high and further back (yeah, it got the renal artery, but still was alot of blood) like i've said, i am in real thick brush and i wan't to recover them fast (if i made a good hit, which i usually can inside of 45 yards) and still recomenned a fixed blade. Try the grizz tricks. That's what i'am going to use after talking with these guys (and gals).
I shoot fixed blade (Muzzy 100g) and they hit the same spot as my field tips. If your bow is set-up well you can shoot whatever you want. I came so close to switching to Rage's but just couldn't see switching from something that I know for sure would work on impact. I don't have anything against mechanicals, I just like the idea of fixed blades. People kill deer with both and what's the difference between a deer going 35 yards and a deer going 50 yards. That 15 yards probably will not make much difference, especially if you hit it correctly. I guess what I'm trying to say is make sure your bow is properly tuned and shoot something you are comfortable with.
