I am looking for my first compound bow which I have really wanted for a few years now. I have been hunting with a crossbow for a few years and I finally have a good amount of money saved up and hope to get some help for my parents, but I'm still looking for something affordable since I am just going to be starting with a vertical bow of any sorts. Any opinions on good starter bows would help me a lot I've looked for about a year now but can't make up my mind. And another question. When they say shooting left handed, does that mean your left hand is gripping the bow or pulling back the string? Cheers and good luck this fall, Cam
You said you have a good amount of money saved up. What does that mean? When you are shopping for a bow you have to consider a package bow or a bare bow. Package bows can be great deals for beginner archers if you find a bow that is comfortable to you. Others might have to go with a bare bow and get all the accessories separately. Regardless of your budget I suggest you find a few archery shops in your area and go shoot some bows. No one bow is right for everyone and after you shoot a few you will start to learn what you like and what you don't. You will be able to figure out which bow is right for you! As for your second question a right handed shooter draws his bow with his right arm.
I have a strothers allure and that is a great starting bow with tons of forgiveness. Along with it being a great starting bow it will last you many years and allow you to grow with it. I have had the bow for 3 years and dropped it out of my tree stand and everything is still in tact and shoots like its brand new.
Left handed is pulling back the string with your left hand. Also check out huntersfriend.com to look at their ready to hunt bows. This is an awesome site as long as you know how much poundage you want and your draw length. You will save money going this route
I have to say I've considered what everyone has said but this site that you mentioned Slugger has to be my new favourite site with anything to do with archery equipment. The deals they have there are great and I have picked out a bow already. Just gotta make final arrangements and finally order it.
I recommend any of the R2H packages from Huntersfriend.com that's where my PSE Drive came from and it arrived at my door perfectly set up for me. I literally took it out of the box, into my back yard and shot it for a half an hour. If you decide to go PSE you may want to make sure you get a tubed peep or a tri string peep as PSE stock strings are kinda crappy and a lot of people have problems with peep rotation. My wife got a Diamond Infinite Edge from them too and I have several other friends who have PSE's from Huntersfriend.com, and aside from peep rotation on tubeless peeps on PSE's, no one has had a single problem with a package from these guys. I highly recommend using them for your first bow.
The PSE Brute X. And thanks for the tip with the sights for the PSE I will definitely be choosing one of those two then.
