I wanting to start filming some hunts of mine. Just for me and my friends. I have Hitachi mini dvd camera but I do not have all the cables for it to close the DVD to watch it. I was wondering which would you pick between a vixia hf r700 or the vixia hf m30. I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. I would just like to buy something I can buy a little more for each year. I also have a canon rebel with the 2 lenses. I wouldn't mind selling it if I could upgrade it to a camera like it that does still shot and video. Thanks for the help.

Your current Rebel is a great option for capturing b-roll of high quality, stills and such. I use my T3i sparingly in the tree currently, but on all day sits do grab it and take. I'd focus on a Lanc capable camera like a Canon G20 or G30. High quality, with costs coming down on both. I bought a used G20 and don't regret it at all. As a bow hunter with few times where my line of sight is long the lack of zooming it has vs the G30 is minimal but noticeable sure.

I'd personally feel save even if for another year to build around filming with a G20 or G30. Capable of high quality footage, and leaves more meat on a budget for a solid arm, fluid head (HUGE) and a lanc remote. Those are the most important 3 for me...then an external mic. I say that last because one can always use video footage with music over it and still deliver amazing stuff. Good externals though can be had for $50-$100 used/new.

Just my .02 from a guy that was in your shoes the last two years.....was gonna grab a handycam but happy I waited and grabbed an actual lanc capable cam (HUGE).

That all makes since. What all do I need to look for in the camera. I know I read where someone recommend the m30 which I found one for about $125 lastnight. I have just never really researched cameras and I want to by basic but not cheap and have regrets.

I have been looking at cameras I can afford. Tell what you think. I know they are not the best out there. But for my family and I being the only ones to be watching I think they will do.
