I no longer shoot mechs, so take this for what it's worth, but try to find the sharpest ones out there. "Scary sharp" broadheads make all the difference in the world when it comes to blood trails. I used to shoot 1 3/4" Grim Reapers but they were so dull that many times they would drag tissue and clog the exit wound, giving me a minimal blood trail even on good hits. Granted, they didn't go far, but you have to think ahead to a marginal hit. Plus, being colorblind, I need a really good blood trail. Honestly, if they came "scary sharp" or if I could figure out a way to put a good edge on those skinny little blades I'd still shoot Grim Reapers. It's just my opinion, but I think they're one of the best designed mechanical broadheads out there. They just come out of the package too stinking dull.
I have only used NAP Spitfires and love them. I have spined a deer, blown straight through another, cut lungs in half, and bounced off ribs and the opposite shoulder and never had a deer go more than 60 yards. I have also never had a blade break off. Shot placement is the most important part, but these broad heads have my full confidence. They shoot like a field point, are simple and reliable.
Get some Rage Chisel Tip Extreme's I've been using them ever since they came out and they are by far my favorite broadhead! They leave massive blood trails and bring down the animal quick.
long time grim reaper guy here.. tried out swhackers last year. first real cold day i noticed the shrink bands were loose. so i heat gun them when i got home. next time out they were loose again. shrink them a little more, next time out same story.. so i gave them away and screw my reapers back on. was i doing something wrong or is this common?
I switched from the G5 T3 to the NAP Killzone Maxx this year. Had good luck with the T3 just trying something new. Stuck a doe with the Maxx and wow what a hole and blood trail!
All the deer I've shot with killzones went down crazy close to where I shot them but I've never had good blood trails, always big holes too. Maybe it's just a 2 blade thing I'm not sure
