    Hello,

I am fairly new to bowhunting for whitetails (have gone in the past a bit with no success and been have been shooting a bow since I was 7). I am looking for input on good books to read on this.

I am not much of a fan of the sit and wait hunting (as I don't own a treestand and am running on a college student budget). I was looking for advice on how to stalk hunt a deer. I will be hunting in central Iowa this fall.

    I really appreciate any help.

    Thanks,

    Justin Richardson

You may want to try some of the mule deer books. They have good tips.

"bowhunting pressured whitetails" by eberlhart... not a stalking book, but a lot of great info.

stalking is a tall order for a novice bowhunting. a whitetail deer is probably the last creature I would cut my teeth on. Im not being negative, but Im letting you know up front that it is no easy task. if $ is an issue for a tree stand, then we can get in a tree stand for nothing on this site Im sure. Remember, waiting and sitting are a part of stalking as well...you ain't going to just walk around and walk up on one. I have no books to offer you in that field, but if you want to get your feet wet I recommend "Life at Full Draw" the Chuck Adams story and " One With the Wilderness: Life of a Solo Bowhunter" they are wonderful and exciting reads. Again, Im not telling not to stalk, just want to let you know it is an extremely difficult task, but I wish you well and if I can help let me know.
