I recently purchased a camcorder and will be filming some hunts this fall as well as filming some scouting stuff from the truck. So here's what I need, and then I'm open to suggestions. 1. I need something to use while scouting in the truck. I saw a monopod w/ a suction cup on it that appears to easily mount to say a window. Does anyone have any experience with one? Do I need one? Will a tripod work just as well in the truck? Most of the time I'll be the only one in the truck... 2. Tripod. I need one that will get fairly tall as I will be filming out of a blind, as well as family stuff. I don't want a short one, obviously to eliminate having to bend down do make adjustments and such. I don't know much at all about this stuff, I'm looking for some education here. I don't mind spending a little coin, but let's not break the bank. Suggestions??
Donnie boy - I have an "entry level" tripod that's in virtually brand new condition I'll sell you on the cheap. Should've told me you were looking for one when you were here! It's a Velbon CX-690. http://www.amazon.com/Velbon-CX-690-Deluxe-Photo-Tripod/dp/B00004TY7I For the smaller handhelds and what you're doing it will work great. As for the window deal, I have no idea - never used them. If you're looking for something a little higher end for a tripod with a nicer head on it and you're not afraid to drop a little coin, I'd get a Bogan 701HDV and a set of legs. B&H sells some nice kits like this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/611516-REG/Manfrotto_by_Bogen_Imaging_701HDV_190XDBAW_701HDV_190XDBAW_Video_Tripod_System.html
Hi mobow. I would be nervous using a suction cup for any thing i cared about. You might want to look at a "gorilla pod" it's a small wrap around type tripod that could be mounted on your door/window. They make different sizes depending on your application. Also, as Justin said anything Bogan is nice. I've bought at least a dozen things from BH and never had a problem. Good luck, Jim
