Looking for a good trail camera with high quality pics and infrared. Was thinking a cuddeback or primos. Wondering if anybody used either of these or had any other good suggestions.

No experience with Primos but I can say this for sure, DO NOT GET A CUDDEBACK. Biggest rip-off out there. The Coverts are the best cam for the money right now. Other good choices would be Bushnell and some of the Moultries. Check out Trail Cameras, Game Cameras tests and unbiased reviews of Camera Traps to read reviews on most of the brands. Good luck and I guarantee to you this, your first won't be your last.

    Blessings.........Pastorjim

If you want an awesome ir cam that has great battery life, great night and day pics and trigger speed go with the covert red 40, simple an awesome cam and can be found if you look for $150-$200. Scoot

Everyone will say covert on here..

No experience personally with cuddeback but haven't heard too much good about them. I had a primos a couple years ago. It worked great for about two years which was expected for one of their lowest end cameras. Only downside of that camera was it ran on C batteries. I would shy away from anything that doesn't use AA personally.

I have two cuddebacks. They are no good. I'm gonna get a covert in a couple of months. I would suggest you do the same.

I have one Primos and am not very happy with it. Poorer picture quality in my opinion than the Moultries and Covert I have. Plus it has failed to run a couple of times when I truly feel I did everything correctly in the setup and turn on. I hate waiting two weeks to find out there is nothing on a card because the cam didn't do it's job. I don't have confidence in it anymore. I use it at the spot I expect to have the least action.

I have 2 older Moultries that are starting to give me problems. Oldest is 5 seasons old and next has 4 seasons on it. Oldest doesn't take night pics anymore and next one takes blurry pics after dark. Both eat batteries for breakfast.

I also have 2 newer M80 Moultries that I am very pleased with. Good pictures and good reaction time. I also like the video mode of these as they have audio as well . They have the Plot Watch option but it really eats up the batteries. If set in Still or Video mode the batteries seem to last very well. My limited experience with Customer service has been fair. It took a bit long to get one of the old cameras replaced when it was new and had a problem.

I have one Covert Black 60 that I bought used that I am running this year. I have only pulled it once so far and am liking it as well as the M80s. Picture quality is great. My only dislike is that it does not have a readout that tells me it is working when I turn it loose. Blind faith that I did it right will have to build as I use it more. I guess my lack of faith in the Primos carries over to this one even if it hasn't been an issue yet. I do like that it has a display that I can view at least some pics before I pull the card so I know I have something on the card. So far the reaction time is good and I don't have any pics of grass blowing in the wind like I get from the Moultries when I don't set the sensitivity right.

I wouldn't hesitate getting a Covert or the Moultries for that mater. Both are good trailcams in my book.

Mi-brad= what is your budget for a camera and what will be your main uses for a camera? Trail? Food plot/field? Any plan to ever use video mode?

That way we can suggest the best camera for your $ and your set ups.

Ohh and I agree with everyone else on the Covert camera line up.

Just bought a stealth cam z3 IR combo with 8 AA batteries and a 2G SD Card for $99 at Fleet Farm. Took pretty good pictures of me mowing the lawn to test it out:)

Bushnell better than Moultrie but just sent one back have another that won;t hold the date?? The newer models are much better than the 2011s
Covert, worth a hard look for sure
Browning Recon and Spec Ops, the reviews are coming in with high marks, may want to consider...

    PICT0496.jpg Moultrie D55IRXT 5mp($85 Ebay) or D555i 8mp(sound/internal screen)($125 Ebay). I have 4 Moultrie, all work great.
    Some examples using my D55IRXT:
