I'm looking for a new release. I want to stick with a thumb release that i can use while hunting as well as target. I tried a carter fits me too today and thought it was really sensitive, but after shooting it for a while i started grouping really well. The only problem was the shop owner wanted $189 for it which i thought was really high. I know a lot of guys shoot carters. Which ones do you prefer and why. By the way... i have pretty small hands so it has to be a smaller model.

MOmighty, I shoot the Carter Hole in the Thing 3 but it's no longer available. The only real difference between it and many of the other Carters is mine can be activated for either the thumb or the pinky. I used it as a pinky release with back tension.

Most of the Carter releases really resemble each other and except for the still price tag that comes with most of them, you really can't go wrong.

I agree with Rob. I found that with thumb and back tension releases, some fit certain hands better than others. Truball just released a new release, the "Absolute." Essentially the head AND neck of the release pivot (unlike their 360 where just the head rotates). Supposedly it's to cut down on vertical flex on your D-Loop. I'm not sure if it's mostly marketing hype or not, but the nice thing about it (which Rob mentioned and made me think of this), is that it also can be activated with your pinky if you choose so. That's a feature I would like to have in my ST-3. I like Truball (the st-3 just fits my hand nicely, and the price was hard to beat). You're not going to go wrong with a Carter either. Most people told me when I was searching around for a thumb release was to do one of two things. Go to proshop where you can try them out, or buy used and cheap, so that if you get one that doesn't feel or fit your hand right, you can sell it for little to no loss.

My Carter has a lot of mileage on it and to be honest, I'd be hard pressed to tell you which new model I would choose. I love the pinky option and when used with back tension, I've had great success with it. I prefer that over the thumb however I would not hunt with the pinky option, it's strictly target.

When using the thumb activated I make sure the thumb trigger is well into the palm part of my thumb and not the tip and still try to trigger it with back tension rather than thumb movement. I've never hunted with it as I prefer a caliper.

I have a TruBall Tornado and I love it. Mine is a wrist strap, but I have a friend that shoots one of their thumb releases and he likes his as much as I like mine.

Thanks Jeff! I decided to go with the Just B Cuz for the same reason you did. I figured if im going to spend that kind of money I want to hunt with it too. I liked the bigger index hole so i could wear it with gloves as well. I usually just use thin bow hunting gloves and some hot hands when it is really cold. I cant wait to try it out.
