Ok, so I am new to the Bow world, and am looking to save up and get a bow at a decent price. Not looking for anything expensive, but at the same time would like the "BETTER" of the packaged bows. I have not shot any, and not sure of any of the places around me will allow. So far I have looked at the Diamond Core and the PSE Stinger. Just like the whole Ford and Chevy thing, I have heard from one guy the Core is horrible, then at a "Bow Shop" that the Core was a Great started bow for the price. I am just looking to get opinions on these and other bows in the same price range. Definitely keeping it under 500 for a package deal. Thanks in advance for any help.

Buddy of mine I just got into bowhunting went with the Core. Great quiet bow with a little help. Shoots nice. The package accesories it comes with are not the greatest. They'll get you into it, but look into upgrading rest and sight. Stabalizer it comes with does nothing for the bow either. Diamonds are good bows for the money. Good luck on your decision making and welcome to the forums and to the world of bows.

Has anyone shot the Diamond Core or the PSE Stinger? I heard the new Stinger was changed up a little bit?

In my personal opinion I'd spend the money the first time. Even if you have to buy a bare bow and put cheaper accessories on it the first time. I picked up a Diamond Marquis when I started and still have it 5 years later. I started with cheaper accessories and have upgraded along the way. My buddy picked up a PSE stinger because it was the cheapest deal and he didn't want to spend the money, he ended up trading it after one season.

Splurge on the bow now and find basic accessories to hold you over. Then next year if you find the funds, then upgrade. You can't upgrade the bow itself but you can change the accessories.

I'd also see if you can find a bow show that sells used bows or check here or on archery talk classifieds.

If I were you I would definitely find a way to shoot the bows available in your price point. This is gonna be the biggest decision making thing you can do. I shot bows at both a local shop and at Bass Pro. I really liked the feel of the Bear Legion. Instead of buying it there a BP I ordered mine new from a shop on eBay for $100 cheaper than at BP and their accessories on the package were better than that on the package from Bass Pro. Bear makes some great bows in your price range IMO, just try shoot what you can before deciding.

I have been looking to upgrade soon and have been doing a lot of research. I can't spend 1000 bucks on a bow and am firmly in the sub 500 price range. I have come to the decision to go with a bare bow instead of the rth packages. To me it makes the most sense. Usually the accessories aren't that great on the rth deals and different folks have different preferences. Put the upfront money into the bow and let them keep their accessories. Maybe you already have some cheaper/older stuff to throw on it until you can upgrade. I have about decided on the Bear Legion. They go for 400 just the bow. Good luck

I'm with REMYNGTON, Bear makes some great bows. I had to go out of town to shoot them, but it was worth it. I ordered the Encounter this last week. I liked it better than the PSE Stinger or Diamond Outlaw, which was my "hit list" at Cabela's or Sportsman's Warehouse. I personally got the bare bow. I have all my accessories and enjoy setting up my own rig. The choice is ultimately yours and the forums are a great resourse. Hope this helps

You should shoot as many of the bows your interested in side by side and don't just settle on a brand name choose what feels the best to you..

I agree with getting a good bow first. The best thing to do is buy used. you will get so much more for your money

For your first bow you should really shoot as many bows as possible before making any decisions. Like someone mentioned earlier usually the accessories that come on the packages really aren't worth putting on a kid bow(just my opinion). You may even want to look at some used bows there's always someone wanting to upgrade so bad they will sell really nice bows for super cheap. If you want new definitely look into mission. i talked a buddy a of mine into bow hunting this year and bought a Mission they're awesome bows with a really good price tag. you may have to buy some cheaper accessories at first but you can upgrade as you go

For that kinda money you can for sure get a new mission which is made by mathews, or a used mathews z7 which is what id reccomend. spend the money once.

I have the 2013 PSE Stinger 3G and really enjoy it. Ive used it for about 15hrs so far and can hit my Hurricane target from 75yds using the bottom pin (60yrd) raised just slightly. Its Currently set at 51lbs.

Being a new bow hunter can you tell me what features you are looking for/need in a more expensive bow?
I think the limbs on this bow can be swapped out if I need more power.
