Today i shot the Mathews helium and the Mathews z7 magnum. i cant decide which bow i should go with. The helium has more recoil in it and crepes more. The magnum is heavier with less recoil. My plans are more for target shooting than hunting, if i hunted with it it would be very few, mostly looking for a fun one to target shoot with and with 3D targets and long range shooting. What yalls opinions on these bows, which one would you get? any info appreciated thanks, Mike.
I'm a bowtech guy. but have shot both of these bows also the monster....in my opinion the monster shot the best very smooth draw nice backwall little to no hand shock.....just my opinion!!!!
Go to Quest Bows and check those out. I recently got the Quest Primal with the Gfade. Man not only is it a sharp bow is looks great!
What type of "target" are you going to shoot? are you talking 3d, spots, or field? for 3D look at the monster series, especially the MR7 and MR8, the Zmag wouldn't be a horrible choice here either. For shooting spots look at the Apex's or the conquest 4.
Look at something totally different than what you test shot. Get something with a longer ATA. 35" plus with a longer Brace height. Those bows are not ideal for target archery at all.
Agreed. While these are all good bows, they are designed for hunting. Hunting bows and 3D usually make a good match, but for FITA Field Target/Spots and indoor Vegas 3 Spot/5 Spot there are better choices. First, hunting bows generally have a higher let off. A lower let off (higher holding draw weight) gives a better platform for back tension releases. Second, short brace height bows allow a longer power stroke, but in target archery, speed is not king. In a day of hunting, you may shoot only a couple of shots, allowing plenty of time for muscle recovery. In FITA Field, you may shoot 120 shots in a two day event. Higher brace height and longer ATA generally make for a more forgiving bow. Many shots are made at steep angles in varying terrain. If you want to experiment, try a used Hoyt Pro Elite, Vantage Elite or Pro, 38 Pro, or Contender. Clean examples are abundant and a number are sold turn key with stabs, sights/scope, and target rest. All that said, you can most certainly be competitive in Field Archery with a hunting bow - your skill makes a far greater difference than the equipment.
Ive seen some bows that say they are best for "3D" whats the difference between a bow made for 3D shooting and a hunting bow?
I shot Mathews for awhile and have switched to Elite. I currently shoot the Answer for some 3D and mostly hunting. For Indoor/Outdoor 3D and Spots, I shoot the Tour. I absolutely love both bows but have know a lot of guys that shoot the Pure and say it is amazing.
I had the Helium last year and it was a great bow I dont see why it wouldnt be good for 3D, I moved over to the Creed if you get a chance shoot the Creed what a smooth shooter its accurate as hell. Now with that said I just got into 3D and I picked up a new Monster MR6 the other day well ordered it black riser camo limbs.. I have shot the crap out of the chill and I like the dual cam which is why my second hunting bow is a Ballistic basically a Chill man are they fun to shoot aswell.. But again it depends on the kind of target shooting your gonna do..
