I want feathers on my next batch of arrows - or refletch my current ones after season!

Only thing I don't like is that I don't want to lose 30-40 grains of weight off my arrow...at only 415 grains currently...maybe I just add weight elsewhere???

Some stuff I buy, some stuff I don't.

Drag reduces speed... no arguing that. Feathers create more drag... no arguing that. So if A=B and B=C then A=C, no arguing that. There is no way you create drag and increase speed. The only reason that speed would increase is due to lighter weight.

What vanes are you currently shooting? I don't see you losing 30-40 grains. 3 Blazers weigh 18 grains, 3 feathers weigh what 9 grains? Add a wrap if you don't have one to gain grains you think you need. And the increase of FOC is a plus if you do lose what you think you would lose.

I was pointing out that if he lost the amount of weight he indicated (30-40) grains off the back of his arrow that FOC would increase. I was not however mentioning an substantial increase in FOC with adding a wrap. It's either written incorrectly or you read into it wrong. :p And I edited it to be more clear but in your thoughts of what it did read, your correct.

yeh I know that feathers create more drag because 4" is longer than 2" but they are lighter and that's where you could pick a few feet per second...but that's not why I went back to feathers...

I shoot feathers and agree with this all in your post. The one thing I do not like about feathers they can make a little noise. I water proof my feathers and do have any problems at all.

On top of that I think a 4" feather looks better than high profile vane do on my arrows.

    I am just saying. LOL

Feathers are by far the coolest fletch when done right.

If you concerned with weather, water/rain...fletch a couple up in another and shoot them to see how they do.

I have my XX78's fletched with 4" feathers, 2" Blazers and 3" Duravanes. All group together. I shot my PA buck and doe with feathers and my IL buck with Blazers because of fowl weather.
