Hey guys: Some of you may have seen this but for those of you who haven't. The most expensive part of a bag target is not the cover. Replacement covers are about $25. Its not the Filler as they are paid to haul scrap out of factories which becomes the filler. The most expensive part of a bag target is the Shipping and shipping markup. We started 25 years ago selling empty bags that come with an EZ fill top with a velcro closure. Just fill with old rags clothes shirts towels sheets etc. works best. We had a number of customers want a bigger DIY target and here it is. 3'x3' 40 aiming spots. DIY Range Target Skins
Spotnstalk: Each spot will withstand about 1000 shots. If you wear out all the spots we will give you a new set of skins free and about 20 minutes recover it. Unlike a normal target, if you wear out a hole in the middle we will sell you just a set of skins and you can fix your own for about $35 plus mailing. Here is a picture so you can see how big it is compared to the spider web target. Bottom two are how we use them in a range.
So they're the most inexpensive and long lasting on the market? Not trying to be a grammar nazi, but I am not looking to by the most expensive target on the market. Cool concept by the way.
I am not in the market and should be good with my set up for a good while. I do like it and love shooting at Big Targets down range.
That looks interesting. Do you have any pics of it set up but not in the frame? I don't have a frame for it, will it still work?
Sorry guys I have been making product for the Indianapolis show this weekend. Been in the shop since before noon. I'll try to answer all questions with one answer. We sell the set of 2 skins a front and back for $35 plus mailing. Usually about $6 for mailing. With the skins comes an easy to follow set of instructions to build a 3'x3'x12" box. It would cost a fortune for me to ship a full box. By you building the box, which just about anyone can do, you save over $250 of a similar store bought target. After the box is built, the skins are stapled on and a trim board applied. Then cut a trap door in the top and fill with old clothes. If you buy the lumber at Lowes it is about $16 for a 12' 2"x12". If you ask they will even cut it to your specs so it will fit in the car and save you time cutting. Staples, screws, wood and Skins total should be maybe $75. Same size target by spider web is $400 or more. When one wears out a spider web it cost another $400. With the DIY skins its $35 plus mailing to fix it in 20 minutes.
So you have to use a frame? My son shoots with me and he has been known to sling a wild arrow. Hell, I've been known to sling a wild arrow! My concern is hitting the wood with an arrow.
The target is 3'x3' the frame is only 1 1/2". Tell him to aim for the frame. just kidding. Ours have been up 3 years now and have my son in laws 2 bad shots in them. Just unscrew the fieldpoint and leave it if you can't pull it.
Mywaytotalk: We have been on another archery forum for 3 years. I don't want to mention names of other archery forums on here. Anyway we ran a DIY contest. Had over 25 members build them and all seemed to enjoy the project with the kids etc. We have yet to have a legitimate customer complaint on any of our targets. Here is a picture of a target that we replaced on warranty. It took 12,000 shots for the front.
