Honestly, I couldn't tell ya bro. There are so many different bowyers out the now a days probably hard to pinpoint it! But, like I said, I couldn't tell ya!
They gotta be damn close Joe to center shot otherwise no one would be getting decent arrow flight out of these heavier stiffer arrow set ups.
For a small fee, I could make a definitive statement one way or the other to help you with your bet. There is such a variety of longbows nowadays it is hard to say for sure, but I would lean toward, yes, they are more center shot as a group. Then again is a reflex-deflex bow really a long bow? (heh, snicker.. kidding!!) I have one of those HHill style long bows. Really long and a handle that I think really is miserable. Needs weaker spined arrows to shoot around the bow. I can't pull it back anymore.
Lol!! How much? I understand exactly what your saying Christine!! The longbows back In the day were not center shot. I think for the most part though that the majority of the "new longbows of today" are mostly center shot.
Most of my modern longbows are very close to being center-shot. I can pretty much shoot the same arrows that I shoot out of my recurve. My wooden longbows are nowhere near centershot. I shoot off my finger, the string bisects the center of the grip.. which is 3/4 of an inch wide.. It's 63# @ 27" and I hunted with 35-40# spine wood arrows, two blade broadheads. Anything stiffer would not shoot a broadhead at all. Non-centershot bows are a horse of entirely a different color. woodsman
I agree Jeff. I shot my brothers longbow with my same arrows that I use with my recurve, they flew great. He's the one that I'm actually having this argument with. Another?? Nevermind, I knew that.:d
Another breed they are Chris. I've shot a few of them old Howard Hill longbows that had just a tiny shelf to them, that was something.
Steve, I would say about 80% if not more are center shot. There are still some bowyers out there making Hill style bows with very small shelves and bows designed to shoot off the knuckle. As far as the arguement goes refer to my pm:d
Jeff. IMHO no. Nothing, if you can give the end user a choice of what arrow combo to use it makes better business sense. Long Bows lost a lot of ground to recurves, mainly because of this very fact and a lot of people wanted a shorter bow, a niche that the recurve filled.
Wow, looks like a lot of familure faces around here. As for your question Shultzy, I can build you any kind of bow you want.:d I agree with what has been said, a shoot around will take a fine tuned arrow. A center shot will have a wider range of tolerance in spine.
I just looked at one of the bows I used to shoot and its actually cut 3/16th PAST center! No wonder it was so easy to tune! lol
