Hi, I just recently bought a long bow of line, made from FRP and beech wood... is it normal to hear crackling in the limbs about 6 shots after buying it? Need some answers fast because i need do know if i need to return it...
That is actually a Steppe or what most call a horse bow. I would have to draw and hear what it is doing. Ive seen the siyahs make a funny noise while shooting in. But it is not a crackling sound. Are you drawing past the tillered draw length? What is the working limb made of? Is it glass, horn, or wood? Are the limb sleves synthetic or leather. If leather, it will make a funny sound.
It was listed as a longbow but ya it is definitely a horse bow (in fact mounted archery is what i intended to do with it...). The limbs are FRP which is a fiberglass/wood laminate, then a thread wrapped and then yes, limb sleves are leather. I am new to the whole archery game so I am still trying to get a feel for what to look for, what not to buy, whats normal, etc...
Oh and I am not drawing it past the tillered draw length, in fact i think i am drawing a little under...
I have heard bows with leather sleves make a sound when the leather bends on the limb. Not sure if that is what you are hearing. Might be something to consider. The siyahs appear to wraped with hemp or some other type of fiber (there are all kinds used). I would assume they are set with epoxy, since the limb is a glass lam. So I would count that out.
