I hate any form of tea... so naturally I order a Long Island Ice Tea at the bar last night. Loved it. Potentially my new favorite mix. So I ask you, what is the best kind of pre-made mix or recipe for them?
I love me a good Long Island. Pound for pound it's one of the more potent mixed drinks out there. I always make them with rum, vodka, tequila, gin, triple sec, sour mix and coke. No tea needed.
Do not buy any of the pre-made ones. I have tried a few and hated them all. Find a good bartender that makes them the way you like, make a new friend, maybe take em hunting or something, then ask him to teach you how he does it.
This^^. You want it strong but have to watch your pour on the gin & tequila or the flavor can bite a touch. A date may like it more if you substitute cranberry for the coke(long beach iced tea) or substitute blue curacao for the triple sec and sprite for the coke and you have yourself a Blue Motorcycle. Garnish all with a lemon wedge and have a designated driver because they all pack quite a punch with 5 liquors. I prefer them tall (in a pint glass) with lots of ice.
I usually will get one or two on a trip downtown. one local bar has their own mix and it is damn potent.
My favorite drink of all-time.. and so few get it right. It's easy enough to make.. but if its mixed too heavy of any one ingredient it will taste terrible. The idea is to clench the thirst on a hot summers day.. although I just had one with dinner in the dead of winter. Last night too. Like Justin said.. but I'll elaborate since amounts are important. Starting with a 12-16 ounce glass or red solo cup when out with the neighbors. ICE.. it's important and fill the cup at least half way. Mix 1 shot Gin 1 shot Vodka 1 shot Triple Sec 1 shot Rum The remaining empty portion of the glass should be about 3/5 sweet and sour mix and 2/5 Pepsi. Now.. some will choose Coke.. but I think that's just adding too much of a salty taste when combined with the sweet and sour mix.. Pepsi is far less sodium tasting and seems to enhance the flavor of the alcohol better. Coke just adds to the sweet and sour mix. For an even deadlier ice tea.. add 1 shot Tequila.. and an even deadlier still another shot of everclear. Enjoy! I drink these things like water.. even make one with real peaches that's frozen for the summer.. it to is delicious.
There is a trashy biker bar back home that all the college kids pack out for karaoke on Wednesday nights throughout the summer. They make the best damn LITs I've ever tasted.
If you like bourbon you can add bourbon for a Texas Tea. I had one couple who liked bourbon instead of gin and substituted grand mariner(orange) for the triple sec and orange soda instead of Coke. It was pretty good. Anyone wanting a super summer drink will like this one below. The crushed ice is a must but a very easy drink for cookouts and what not. Also, since it's made with vodka it's easy to adjust the strength to your preference. http://www.twin-tables.com/2009/06/orange-crush.html
