For the Lone Wolf hang on users on this site... Do you prefer the Alpha or the Assault??

Just trying to get some feedback from those who have used them. Looking to get the stand and sticks this year but not sure what the best option would be.

    Thanks in advance!

I plan to buy the Assault. Only because I will be using it as a mobile setup and not leaving it out and I go along way from the roads since I only hunt Pa public land.

For most people though, the measly 3# difference isn't worth it have the smaller platform. But to me every pound counts. If I had a spot closer to the road or could leave it out I'd go with the Alpha.

how big are you and have you gotten out to set eyes on both stands?

I got the Alpha and 4 sticks during decemeber. weight is right at 20 pounds and I don't have to walk very far at all... couple hundred yards at most. The alpha is super comfortable and I have regular cushion on there. I only did 2-3 hours sits and the seat was fine. if it was an all day sit I would look into thicker one.

If you are a bigger guy 3# really shouldn't make all that much difference, and the larger platform is better for bigger people/longer days. The LW stand carries better and more comfortable than any stand I have used. I would imagine upgrading the straps would be even nicer.

This is exactly the type of feedback I am looking for!

I am a small guy - 5'8" and about 170. I have a 40 acre piece of property to hunt and I will need to walk just a few hundred yards at most.

I do have a WMA about a mile from me I can hunt as well.

get the Alpha if that's all you gotta walk, think of carrying an extra heavy hooded sweatshirt(maybe a tad less) that is about what the 3 lbs wud be. the longest I have walked with stand, 4 sticks, shotgun, and small bag and jacket tuck in the stand was about 1/2 mile or so. it was not an issue at all.

The stand really does carry great, flat against the back and easy on and off, not struggle at all

I'd get the Assault over the Alpha and swap out that 3 extra pounds for a extra Lonewolf stick. I rarely ever do a all day sits in a mobile setup. Typically its a walk in just after lunch, set up, hunt until dark and pack up situation. I rarely do this prior to day light unless I know where I am going and already have hunted out of a specific tree. Nothing worse walking aimlessly through the woods in the dark trying to find a tree to setup in. If I find a good spot that has a lot of deer traffic I am packing in a different stand, hanging it, and leaving it there. Obviously your state regs have to allow you to do so. Every pound of weight counts to me!
The new Assaults have the exact same size seat as the Alphas. Get the Hunt Comfort seat if you want to sit longer with comfort.

I will say it also depends how tall / how big your feet are. That 4" of platform does make a big difference. There is really not a right or wrong answer. Maybe this is the reason I have both stands. :)

    This.

I pack in and out each hunt, and add camera gear to the equation, the assault was the clear choice for me because I wanted to shave a few pounds off.

Now, I intend on buying an alpha so I can have the bigger platform if I decide to hunt my preset sticks or tag along and film by buddy. But I will still primarily hunt from my assault if I'm packing everything in.

How about if I plan to leave it out over a week at a time?

I'm not ALWAYS going to be setting up/taking down every time I get out of the tree.

I haven't used the assault but I did "try" it out in the store. For the weight difference it was easy to decide which one to get. The one with more room. The Alpha carries much lighter than it weighs meaning it doesn't feel like a 14 pound stand on your back. For you carrying your stand a few hundred yards, which is what I do, get the bigger stand.

I hunt with an Alpha on public land and usually hunt all day. I typically hunt a mile to a mile and a half from my truck and don't think the weight is a problem at all. I carry four climbing sticks and have carried as many as five. I also carry a backpack that I strap to the stand. I would guess the pack adds an extra six to eight pounds depending on how much my water I carry. I like the mobility of the stand and find it to be easy to hang and comfortable for all day sits. I have left it over night but only if I'm hunting there the next morning. I purchased the Treestand Transport System from Game Plan Gear this year and love it.

I have 10 Lone Wolf Assults and would use nothing else, you can get the assult into tighter places that will give you more concealment, and they are much lighter when you pack them in and hang them.
