I'm curious how many LW stand owners have taken the time to tape (friction) the platform of their stand? It took me about 4 hours (on and off) in total to do, but it really helps make this stand more quiet than it already is. It also gives much better traction when things get wet.
Honestly, I've never seen a need for it. I've never had a problem with the stand being loud or not having traction.
The only thing I've done to my LW was use pipe foam to quieten where the seat contacts the platform. I didn't like the clanging. Oh, I also camo taped the sticks so they aren't as noticeable.
I camo'd all my sticks but i honestly havnt taped all my stands. I have 10 alpha stands and taped one.... not really worth it honestly. I did pain the last bunch 5 I got chocolate brown and man they look SWEET!!!!
I just taped the slot that holds your bow. I have gallons of that dip-it product that I've thought of using for rust proofing a stand but never thought about grip.
If you ever drop something on the platform you'll see/hear what I mean. I'm just a believer in taping anything that can "potentially" make noise. Finch, that tape makes the sticks blend nicely.
Any chance you have photos of the stands you painted? Also, how long ago did you paint them and has it held up to the elements?
Yeah, I wanna know what you used on those sticks too. They pattern looks so good, did you use a camo dip on it?
I haven't felt the need to tape my platform, but I did use camo cloth tape on the V-bars on the climber section and on the rail you sit on when climbing. I did this mostly for fiming in case I bump the stand with the tree arm I won't have metal on metal contact.
If that is just camo duct tape on the sticks I know what I will be doing this weekend now! Those look great!
Hey guys...that is camo cloth tape made by Allen. That pattern is Mossy Oak and I actually bought it from BH.com http://www.bowhunting.com/shopping/Products/Allen-Cloth-Tape-Breakup__11231.aspx It quietens down the sticks and makes them a tighter fit when securing them to the stand. I also tape the buckles for extra noise protection. Just make sure you apply the tape so that it sticks to itself. I used three long pieces of tape to do one stick.
