I'm buying a few new sets and looking for opinions. Pretty much the Muddy Hunter against the Lone Wolf Alpha.

I'd go lone wolf, I have the muddy hunter and there is a reason lone wolf uses a moulded platform. I have had the platform make noise along with the seat on my muddy.

I have the Muddy Hunter and think it's a great product. Best hang on I've had by far. Easy to carry and quick to setup. Only thing I don't like is they're made in China... But what isn't these days.

Bought a muddy once and spent the time putting it all together and hung it on a tree in my back yard and after sitting on it for three minutes I took it all apart and boxed it up again and sent it back the next day.
Platform scary unstable. Foot rest feels like its going to snap off. Seat instantly compresses into nothing.

Lone wolf with the comfort seats is the way to go. IMO

I have a muddy hunter stand and I love it. At first the platform felt unstable but it was my fault. Once I learned how to use it, it was very stable.

I went with Muddy for a few reasons:

    1. Weight: It was pound for pound the same as a lone wolf
    2. Platform Size: The hunter is larger than others I saw from lone wolf
    3. Customer Service: I had many questions leading up to my purchase and muddy was much quicker to respond than lone wolf
    4. Cost: The Muddy was much cheaper
    5. Options: There were options I really liked, and still do, that the muddy has the lone wolf didn't

Don't get me wrong, lone wolf makes a great product and basically dominates this site on stands. However, the Muddy stand is awesome and gives lone wolf a run for it's money in every category.

I hung my muddy a foot off the ground on a little palm tree so that could of had something to do with it not being stable.

The stock seat sucks but so does the LW but the foot rest did feel like it would snap off if I relaxed my feet on it.

Needless to say I found that out post purchase. I'll be trying a Lone Wolf this season.

I have some incredible customer service from Muddy and been unimpressed with lone wolf. That's part of my dilemma.

    Lone Wolf.

Curious as to what problems you had with a Lone Wolf to contact customer service? I've never had a single issue with any of my Lone Wolf stands.

True. Both stands weigh in at 14 lbs

True, but not true at the same time. The Muddy is overall larger, but if you look at their platform it's very V-shaped. So yes it's wider at the widest point, but then narrows considerably as it goes back towards the tree. The Lone Wolf maintains it's full width for much further than the Muddy which IMO gives you more usable room. Also, if you look at the front of the Muddy it simply has another "V" shape to kick it out those extra couple inches to say their platform is bigger. It's not really usable space.

Not to justify a slower response by LW but this one always kills me. If you have questions why not pick up the phone and call instead of emailing? And when you say much slower, what are we talking? Hours? Days? Weeks?

Can't deny that. It's the cost of a china-made welded aluminum platform versus an American-made cast aluminum platform.

Just out of curiosity - what options are those?

I agree - Muddy is definitely the closest competitor in the hang-on stand market. If Lone Wolf stands suddenly disappeared from the planet tomorrow Muddy would be my choice as a replacement. I personally don't think the Muddy is as good as the Lone Wolf but it's also priced cheaper. As they say, you get what you pay for. And I'm sure plenty of deer will meet their maker thanks to hunters perched from both stands this fall. :tu:

I pretty much agree with Justin and I own both of them. I can get the LW stands in a bit tighter, I seem to have to play with muddy to get it in tight.

Well let me just say that Muddy isn't paying me to endorse it's products but I want to say I bought the cheapest in the Muddy line of hang-ons the Outfitter and really liked it last year - so much so just ordered another a few days ago from Amazon for a rock bottom price!

If the foot rest feels like it's going to break then who ever installed it should go back and tighten the screws - it's not as bad as some have made it sound.

The seat does suck - but no more uncomfortable than the LW. So you can either be uncomfortable in a $160 plus stand or you can be uncomfortable in a $260 plus stand...

LW probably is indeed the highest quality hangon on the market. But don't let that admission by others sway you to believe that you'd be getting a low quality hang-on, it's still a quality product.

I really like my muddy's, it does suck that they're made in china tho. The new muddy avenger's mounting bracket is something I'd really like to test out in the woods. With that said, when purchasing a couple hang ons before season the made in America and CAST aluminum not welded factors will likely give the advantage to lone wolf.

I hunt on a budget and on all private land so most of my stands will not get moved until end of season. So I'd rather have two of one stand compared to one of another. I have sat in a lone wolf and it seems like a nice stand but I'd rather have my Muddy's.
