I'm trying to figure out if its worth saving the 3 lbs to get the smaller assault platform vs the standard that comes with the hand climber. I'm 5' 8" 180 size 10 boot. Does anyone have experience with both? Thanks for any help.

I have both. If you're going to be walking long distances to your stand site I'd go with the Assault, otherwise get the full size platform stand. Three pounds really isn't a make or break difference.
