Anybody have this? I am looking for a nice climber that I can use to be very mobile. I have the Assault II hang on so the platform really doesn't bother me it fits great for me being 5'6" 120 lbs .. But does anyone have it? I need some reviews, pics, etc to sell me on getting it.
All depends what you are looking for in a climber. For example... How light is it? How does it pack? What size is the platform? How quiet is it? How easy is it to climb with? How safe is it? How comfortable is it? How easy is it to adjust once up the tree? I've tried a number of climbers, and the LW hand climber is my favorite because of its ease of use, backability, weight, and its very quiet. Its not the most comfortable one out there, but that isn't an issue for me. I really don't sit that much, and when I do, the seat is fine for me. With that said, there are a few other really good climbers out there. If I couldn't have the LW HC, the Summit Openshot would be my next choice. Also a very nice climber. Use the search function on this forum. You will find a lot of good info about the LW climber, and other climbers.
I have used a LW hand climber many times. Absolutely awesome!!! I had a summit viper as well and the lone wolf in my personal opinion fit my needs better than any other out there. Quiet, fast, and super light...and not only is it light but it folds super thin so you don't have a bulky stand hanging off your back. The only drawback is the seat, so i recently opted for the lone wolf sit and climb. I bought the extra wide so it would be roomy...I can now sit all day and time flies by because i am so comfortable. Get the right tree w a little lean and its like your favorite chair LOL!! Highly recommend any of the LW products. Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I liked how compact it is but I didn't like the climbing part. The sit and climb is easier IMO to get up the tree. I have a summit now and its a comfy stand but combersome to get into the woods.
This is my first season with the Assault hand climber. I didn't like it at all at first (climbing seemed awkward), but I'm getting used to it more and more. The thing is DEAD quiet. I can move up the tree fast now, because I'm not afraid of bangs and clangs if I drag the base up the bark as I'm climbing. It packs extremely well and fast. The seat is terrible, but for short sits it will suffice. I'm also not a huge fan of the smaller platform, so if I would have done it over again, I would have going with the regular Aplha for the bigger platform with the understanding that I would be sacrificing some weight savings.
I went with the regular Alpha. It's like 2.7 lbs heavier or something like that. I have an Assault hang on, so I knew what I'd be getting if I had went that route. Like Matt, it took me a few runs to get it down, but I really like it. If I was sitting all day I'd take my Ol Man 10 times out of ten. The LW has it's place. It packs awesome, it's perfect for after work hunts. Even If I had the aluminum OL Man, I'd still be quicker with the LW, without the bulk. If I had to buy only one climber though, I'd really be pressed not to get an aluminum OL Man. I've yet to try a Sit N Climb top for comfort, I'll likely pick it up next year to try and then have both options for my LW platform.
I believe they make a strap for the hand climber that you can use to sit and climb: Lone Wolf Hand Climber Sit Strap
I have the Alpha hand climber, the one that is a couple lbs. heavier then the Assault. I recommend the Alpha over the Assault. Two or Three lbs isn't much more to carry in and larger platform is worth it. I had the LW Sit N Climb years ago, didn't like it near as much as my handclimber. Buy a handclimber and don't look back. It's not hard to use. I am 37 and average shape.
Why the bump? You got some pretty good responses. Do a search if you want to read more. This LW climbers have been discussed many, many times on here.
I'm almost sold on this stand. The one thing that I'm learning I LOVE about climbers is silence and light weight. I can be uncomfortable. Currently looking at the Openshot (Summit) and LW Assualt Hand Climber.....which attachment to the tree makes less noise? I have experience with Summit's system....but not LW.
This year I sold my Summit Viper and bought a Lone Wolf Sit-N-Climb stand before the season. It definitely took some getting used to - the stand is setup to be light and easy to carry in and out. Summits & API climbers are big bulky, loud, and easy to climb with. But, after using this thing now on 5 or 6 hunts I am really starting to get used to it. Works great - so quiet, and fast to climb with. I like the "sit" as you climb style (it feels safer) so thats what I went with. I would say go with Sit-N-Climb! Good luck! Neal
