Anybody using these? I've thought about getting one but don't know how portable they are. Also what is so special about the cast iron vs what they use on the f1

I got to mess with one this winter a bit. Seemed real light and easily portable. The cast aluminum is so quiet, especially in cold weather that I'll just pony up the extra $$ for the original :tu:

So you're sayin just save the extra money and go with the assault or alpha over the f1?

For me, that's what I'd do. It's still a great stand, don't get me wrong, but I hunt enough in the late season that I don't trust anything but the cast aluminum to stay quiet.

Craigslist is your friend. I just missed on an Assault going for $150. The guy is also selling an original Alpha for 175.. You can get some good deals if you look for them. As for whether or not it's worth the extra cash if you buy new? ABSOLUTELY. It only takes a stand squeaking once at the wrong time to leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Cast platform is the only way to go.
