I havnt read the book, but i know people who have, and i can do some quick google searches. Spoilers: All the death scenes were false. The ending never happened. And certain points such as the helicopter crash were embellished and not as it was in real life. Im all for "TRUE" stories, but dont change it for hollywood is THATS your selling point.
Fair enough, but i go to the movies to be entertained and enjoy a MOVIE. This got rave reviews, and didn't deliver at all. Simple as that.
That's true. To me stuff like this is hard to really make appealing, there's only so much you can add to it to make it entertaining while still getting it close to what actually happened. Its still probably not 100% accurate but most of these stories aren't as actioned packed as you'd like to think. What actually happens in war or military operations and what most people think happens due to hollywood movies are pretty far apart.
I LOVE watching actual documentaries, ect. They are totally different things to me. Movies are entertainment, not learning.
I would be very interested which article you read on google that stated that all of the death scenes were imbelished and the helicopter scene didn't actually happen like that? Its been a few years sense I read the book, but the guy who goes out into the open to call for help and dies, is what happened in the story. I understand that not everything can happen in the movie as it did in real life otherwise we would be watching a 20 hour movie. But the fact that Marcus was on set 90% of the time they were filming and was actually in the movie as one of the seals that died in the helicopter, and with the interviews I have seen with him I believe that they did a tremendous job at making the movie comparable to the book. But we can sit here and argue all day, I think each person will walk away with something different. I hope that people walked away with a greater respect for those that serve this country. If that happened then I believe the movie was a success.
Yea I do too. This really isn't a documentary nor do I think it was made for entertainment but at the end of the day they were trying to stay as true as they could and that doesn't always make for a good storyline for a movie.
The fight scene was actually fairly accurate. Really, the only made up portion was with Axelsons death, which nobody really knows what happened for sure. The helicopter crash was accurate minus the fact that Luttrell watches it go down in the movie. The movie ending did really bug me but If they followed the story to a "t" it would have been a 6 hour movie.
I went to watch the movie with the intent of getting a little bit of what they went through on that mountain, something many of our soldiers encounter and we never ever hear about. At the very least we all should get a sense of pride in what our guys (and gals) will do to keep our freedoms.
