hi guys. the neighboring farmer cut about 10 acres of woods this summer leaving the entire 10 acres covered in brush 6 to 8 ft high. will the deer use this as a bedding area next year, or even this winter?
they are still getting some of the logs out, and they are really only leaving driving trails, this stuff is THICK. i figured the noise of the chainsaws and other equipment would of run off ever deer for miles
Its possible, the deer round here will bed just about anywhere. What Ive found during the winter they will be in thick, thorn bush areas, or in thick, lush cedar patches. I always find there snow paths in and around those areas. So its possible they could move in there. But I doubt they will this winter, I think they would need more of a canopy over their head.
^^^this I cut down trees last winter on a lot in a village and the deer were coming in all night eating the tips of the limbs that they could not reach when the tree was up. Plus, deer love this type of cover for security AND the sunlight hits the ground now, causing growth of flora and fauna that they LOVE to eat. Sal
Parts of our farm were logged in 2008, leaving a lot of underbrush. This past year, it has started to get pretty brushy and the deer are just now using it again.
Some of my best sign is in the an area like you are talking about, trails that are worn 6'' deep. The farm I am hunting was logged a few years ago and the deer seem to love to bed and forage in it. The logged areas are bordered by heavy ceder thickets and lots of hard wood, seems this is my best stand
I was in a camp that every year for the past five years they cut. The first year was 900 acre and I killed my best buck 75 yards away from there loading zone. The deer love fresh cutover and if it's nasty thick the deer love that. For the most part deer don't mind the noise they sometimes stay clear of it but they like to find out what it is and will go looking
