Was out shed hunting yesteday and I put a locust tree thorn all the way through my boot, my foot and back out my boot. Was about 2 miles back in the timber and ended up having to rip my foot out of my boot because I couldnt get a hold of the thorn. Not a very fun experience, and it hurts like hell! Im on crutches now, can hardly walk. Has any one else been stuck by these thorns?

I've been poked by a few! I hunt a parcel in southwest Wisconsin near the Mississippi. It's full of black locust trees. We've actually got a stand in one, but each year we trim the thorns to get up it, and they grow back even bigger the following year. Miserable trees, always gnarly and thick, just full of thorns from 1/2" up to around 6" long growing every which way out the trunk of the tree, out the branches, and all over the place! I've never been stuck by one as bad as you're describing! The critters sure love the seed pods from them though. I hope it heals up and you get back going!

Damn, that sucks. My property is loaded w. locust trees. I HATE them. I've been poked by them on many occasions, nothing as serious as you though. I hope you went to the doctor and they put you on some antibiotics. You can get a pretty nasty infection from those thorns.

I hate those things for that reason...but love the bean pods they produce....cold winters the deer pound and paw up every single one that has dropped.
