2 Parts. 1. What is the average size of the bucks you see while hunting? 2. What is the biggest buck you have heard of killed in your area? Mine are. 1. Usually 100-110 inches (except for this year, I saw more spikes than I usually see) 2. There have been 2 bucks killed that scored in the 230's within 5 miles of my property.
Average size would be 80"-85". Biggest I've shot in my area 107". Biggest I've heard of in recent years 134" shot by a friend this year. His first P&Y class buck. edit: I misread the initial post and thought you just meant on areas that I have access to. The biggest buck killed near me that I know of is in the 160's+. It was killed in a small woodlot that nobody has access to and is a great little sanctuary for deer. Someone got permission and got him. This year we had a "bumper crop" of 2.5 year olds that would push the average up a bit. I'm doing my end of year inventory now to see how many made it. There was a lot of gun pressure in my area this year.
1. Around 90"-120" for 2.5 year olds. If deer get any older they usually survive. 2. My brother killed a 205", and we have lots of game cxam pics of deer 160" and up.
85-95" basket racks. A 234" shot by a local guy in the county. My cousin shot a 205" 18 pt. on our farm 11 years ago.
I would say 70-90 inch on average. Haven't heard of too many great bucks killed around. Don't talk to many around my hunting areas. But I got a 160" on cam and the biggest I have known of around.
we would have bigger deer if my family and neighbors would hold off on the 1.5-2.5 year olds, i shoot deer in the 120-150 almost every year but the ave buck i see is 70-100 there are deer in the 170-230 range, here in the mississippi bottoms the deer are very much night time runners.you only see them during the rut and hauling the mail across a field during daylight if i was a girl can i change my answer to... lbs.. lol just kidding.:D
1. Maybe 50-70" including all the 1.5's in the mix.....both my place and Dan's. 2. At my place, one neighbor shot a 140ish non typical with a rifle about 8 years ago. At Dan's place, his father took a 138" 11 pointer well over 10 years ago with a shotgun. We have found an handful of sheds and dead heads in the 120-130" range, but nothing over 105" killed that I know of anywhere close for well over 5 years now.
Average size buck I see every year- 60 to 65 Inches. Non Typical- 216 Inches net (bow kill) Is the biggest that I know of. He used to be the Minnesota state record. He was shot In between where I live and where I hunt. 1/2 mile away from both places. This was back In 1983 I believe. Typical- 175 Inches gross (gun kill) I believe Is the biggest typical taking from around here from what I know. He was shot about 2 miles north of the woods I hunt. He's an 8 point with some kickers from what I hear. I haven't saw a picture yet but I'll post some pics when I get a picture. He was shot this year (2009) the 1st day of the Mn gun season.
2 Parts. 1. What is the average size of the bucks you see while hunting? Probably like Matt's area (50-70"). I saw 4 deer this year (over 120 sits) that would top 90". The largest I saw (saw him 2X) was a +/- 105" 8-pointer. He was also the ONLY 8-pointer (nothing greater) I saw all season. 2. What is the biggest buck you have heard of killed in your area? 120's 8-pointer (2 of them).....both this year. Both were taken within a mile of where I hunt. Both were gun kills. I don't know of a single person who's taken a 100" buck with a bow.....anywhere near me.....in the last 3 seasons. Last one I know of was a 110" 8-pointer that a friend killed about 1mi. from here in 2006.
I would say 100-110 inch bucks are average bucks I'm seeing. I killed a 140" this year. Within a couple of miles of my property there have been some deer killed in the 180's My cousin killed a buck that netted 193 2/8 around 12 yrs ago in the same county I live and hunt in.
1. Average is somewhere in the 100" range. Most 2.5 year old deer will go 100"-120". 2. Biggest is 220" non typical with a gun a few years ago a couple miles from where I hunt. Biggest bow deer is somewhere around 180", several in the 150" range.
"1. What is the average size of the bucks you see while hunting? I would guess 60 inches or so. 2. What is the biggest buck you have heard of killed in your area?" I don't really have a pulse on the hunting gossip around my area. I don't hang around but 1 other hunter in my county. I hunt a 60,000 acre military base that touches 3 different counties. I have seen bucks killed in the 130-140's, mostly all gun kills.
average 100-125 on the bucks 2 years and older.. good one (usually over 4 years old) pushes 140, great ones push 150 plus.. and are almost always 5 or older Best I have killed 184, best I have ever seen close to my spots.. killed (rifle hunter) about 6 miles from where I hunt. 216... 40 miles north of me a 255 29 point 5 or 6 droptine unicorn buck NT was killed by a rifle hunter.
1. If I averaged the bucks I see throughout the year, I would probably guesstimate that the average is around 110-120" if you include the shooters I see that balance out the smaller bucks. 2. There have been several nice bucks killed in the area. 196" buck killed on neighboring land during shotgun season last year. My dad missed this buck with his bow from 30 yards the weekend before he was shot 192" NT that my dad killed with his ML around 3 years ago. 254" that was found dead a couple of miles down the road .
average I see in my area,,,,50-100 Big spread I know, but fact is you see way more young bucks most of the time. Biggest killed in my imidiate area 2- both in the mid 150's (mine :D) but in a 10 mile range a 170's a 180's and a 218 have been taken, I know all three guys.
Average size of the bucks I SEE while hunting are year & a half old 6 pts that aren't even worth attempting to guess a score. This accounts for both areas I hunt approx 25-30 miles apart. I know of a couple 190+ that have been killed within that radius.
