So I am truly new to the mid west I came from Arizona, I am trying to figure out how pattern whitetail right now I have a buddy who pretty much has every typography you would want I believe. He has picked corn beans timber alfalfa I just need to know where would be the best place to sit in this pre rut right now for a shot at a good mature buck
At this point in the season I'd try to find where the bucks are bedding and set myself off a main trail between bedding and food that is showing scrape/rub activity. Don't try to get too close to their bedroom tho, you can easily push them out with too much pressure. This is Intel best gained in the offseason. Conversely during the rut, you'll want to be on trails coming to and from doe bedding. Good luck out there.
What part of the Midwest are u in? Starting about November 1st I would set up 50-100yds DOWNWIND of doe bedding areas and a just ur stand setups as needed from there. A lot of the mature bucks just scent check doe from a distance. Welcome to the site and good luck
Find a patch of timber inbetween the crops and if there is a trail going trough the timber then look for scrapes or if there arent any make a mock scrape and hunt over it or if that isnt a option find a edge of a field where deer are moving alot make a mock scrape on the edge of the field amd hunt that till the rut starts right now mock scrapes are the best and if you dont see bucks at them right now they will be shortly dont worry they are putting the deer in a pattern and also get doe scent like buck bomb doe p and spray it on travel corridores and do that every other day if a buck notices that come rut thats where he will be
