I have a small trailer I block up the hitch and use a come along, years past I would just txt the son to help me lift.
Adrenaline......I've loaded 2 bucks that live weighed over 280.....it helps if u load them if you are still on a high from shooting them....lol
I will use a strap to help out. I will attach the strap to the bed of the truck then lift one side of the deer up and wrap a strap around it. Now that one side is being supported I will pick up the other end and load it on to the tailgate.
Haha, I always thought of myself as pretty strong but the one I shot last year I could not load to save my life. I didn't want to gut him there or I could have loaded the field dressed carcass but undressed it wasn't happening without assistance. My assistance came in the form of a bolted in fuel tank with hooks and about five ratcheting straps. I dropped the tailgate so it stayed attached at the hinges and used it as a bit of a ramp and hooked the straps to the hind legs and head. From there it was just a lot of ratcheting.
Dodge Ram Trucks have really high beds I always hunt and load alone. I use this method. I have a block and tackle that I hook one end to the hooks provided at the front of the bed (nearest the cab) and then have 2 x 4’s that I use as a ramp. I block and tackle the deer up the ramps and by the time the head is on the tailgate I can lift the two 2 x 4’s off the ground and slide them and the deer on them into the bed like sliding a drawer into cabinet.
Since I live in Ky, I call him in and get my confirmation# and pack'em out in 6-7 pieces.....I haven't field dressed or packed a whole deer out in year's.
I use one of the cheap bumper hitch cargo hauler good for 300 lbs. I have a jeep so I don't want the deer in the passengers seat
With my amazing ability of not being able to shoot any big deer I dont think I will ever have to worry about that.
I've had to load up few big boys in by myself in my time. About the only I have found without a hoist / wench etc is to back the *** end of the truck down in the ditch. Ideally I just call in the cavalry to come help me.
I have a deer pulley system good for 350 lbs. I put him under a tree, hoist him up, then lower him on the tailgate/atv; 4:1 ratio equals one hand lift. Sent from my IPhone 5S.
With two bad shoulders and a bit of age, I have trouble with even a 100 pound deer. My solution? A commercially available receiver mounted deer hoist. Mine is marketed by "KillShot" It comes apart for hauling, mounts to the 2" receiver, has a hand winch, hook and gambrel. It pivots so you lift from the ground, turn it over the tailgate and load it up. You can google it or sometimes find them on Ebay. Best part is you can use it to hoist for dressing you game too.
