Bucks are up and moving this morning in central IL. I passed on a nice 120" 8 pointer and had a 140" 10 pointer skirt me just a few mins ago. We'll see what happens.

You're killing me. I was up at 2:45am, decided to take today off. Sore as all get out from my public land hunt yesterday. I've got the next 4 days off, heat is supposed to snap after Friday. Rain doesn't look like too much of a concern as of now, mostly falling overnight Friday making entry even quieter about 1/4" expected.

    You still out there?

Just got up fellas...decided to hit my public land spit near Bethany where I shot a 8 pointer last year and completely choked (by about a foot high) on an at least 160" last year. Hopefully a bruiser shows up. Playing the wind kinda tight so hope it stays where it is. Heavy bedding to my wnw and clover to my s and cut beans to my sw. This is day 1 of my 5.5 day vacation so here's to hoping it started right

We broke for lunch around 1130. Getting ready to head back out. This hot weather is rough.

Indeed it is, I see they have now boosted Friday's temps into the 70's, what a dismal vacation period I took. And to top it off, all of the frosts and a few hard freezes we've had still haven't killed off the pesky gnats. But I'll be back out at 0'dark thirty in the morning to re-energize my motives.

Just had 3 bucks move through. First was a 1 1/2 basket, grunted at him And he came unglued, jumped and spun then blew 2 or 3 times. Then heard more movement behind me, a funky looking buck comes out about 20 seconds after the first. Tried the can and a few grunts but he wasn't buying it, followed the first. Then about 10 seconds later another small deer came out, thought it was a doe, ended up beig a half spike fawn. This one comes right down the shooting lane. Figures, but probably wouldn't have shot any of them anyhow.

LOL, I just had a half spike cruise by as well. No shooters yet this Mornin. I'm beginning to think my standards are to high. I've passed on numerous 110-120" bucks this week! I guess there's no point in shooting if I'm not gonna be happy with him. Still a couple vaca days left so maybe one of the big boys will show. Good luck!

Neither one of the regular groups of does have come through. Not sure if that first buck blowing detoured them or what. Was hoping for some live decoys. Loving the cloud cover though, hopefully they'll be on their feet with this small front stalling out

Just had a 1 1/2 yr old 7 o 8 pt come cruising in. Not 100% but think it was the same one that blew out of here this morning. He'd be lucky to hit 70". Perked me back up though.

Going to try a new approach. Setting up on the ground behind a deadfall and bunch of briars. Have 3 heavy trails 15-30yds in front of me. They should come out just before sunset, usually kick them up heading back to the truck on evening sits. Just have to hope they cross the field and not stay in the wood line.

    My cover

And shooting lane, they should come out from my right

Hope it works, good thing is it won't ruin any permanent stand sites if not.
