In the Waterfowl thread I posted about getting my mounts back soon from the taxidermist....so... This past December we went on a duck hunt. I shot a pair of birds that were getting mounted, husband shot one to get mounted, and a friend had at least one getting mounted (maybe 2). They were dropped off at the taxidermist by friend in January/February. Husband took partial payment up shortly after - then ran the last payment up just recently. Birds were to be done in the next week or two. I got a picture of my drake hanging to dry and I guess my husband saw his bird when he was up there. Yesterday husband received a call that my hen had spoiled. SAY WHAT?! This doesn't make sense. If we were to be picking up soon - wouldn't he had looked at this months ago. Wouldn't he have already started work on it? How could one spoil and not the rest? (My pair was in the same package). Something is not adding up. My thoughts is either he ruined it, doesn't want to work on it, or someone else wanted it. Husband was totally okay with it - we're getting that money back for the one bird. But, I am irritated - I don't agree with the story. It doesn't add up to me. Anyone have anything like this happen? Heck, I don't even know where they took them to...just that he does nice work and we had three birds done by him from two years ago.
On the eve of the lunar eclipse in 1991 I caught a 21-1/2" smallmouth bass in the Mississippi it was out of my favorite spot I fished all my teenage years biggest smallmouth I have ever caught. Brought it to a taxidermist and months later learned the fish was lost, what the hell that will piss a guy off. Same year shot a bear used a taxidermist up north where I shot it due to needing to get the pelt cooled down. It took over a year and a half to get the pelt back as well as the DNR's involvement. Lucky for me it was my pelt I got back I had drilled a hole in a back claw before I brought it in. I was able to get it to another taxidermist to get the half mount done but it was 3 years before I got my bear mount back.
I just don't understand how the can get "lost" or "spoil" - months after the initial drop off. Must be a thing not to tell until it's close to being done. Glad you were at least able to get one back - did the DNR have to get involved because it was a "lost" pelt...or just trying to go the easy/safe route getting it out of there?
I still have my antlers in my possession from my buck last year. Still hasn't started on my shoulder mount. Plans to start this fall.
The guy claimed his partner had the bear pelt and skull, they don't mess around with bear parts. I explained the situation to head of enforcement and it went from there I got a call a few days later telling me where to pick it up.
Sounds like he was trying to do a last minute rush job. They only actually take about a day to do then couple weeks to dry but he prob has a lot of people in front of you. He probably ruined it. I wouldn't be going back to him Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
He sent my husband a picture of my drake a month or so back. I never thought twice about it. I wont be going back - it has me quite irritated.
