Bought some new Carbon Express Mach5 from Bass Pro yesterday and spoke with the guy about lining up the 3 blade Muzzy's with the fletches and he said he couldn't do it there and said each tip would be unqiue to each arrow, meaning the thread and blades of each Mussy broadhead are not the same. He said I could do it myself at home because the glue he uses on the inserts, which looked like a purple crayon to me, could be turned when heated in some hot water afterwards.
When I got home I pulled out my new Muzzy's 1-3/16" three blade broadheads and screwed them into each arrow using the practice blades and then soaking the arrow tips into very hot water I was able turn each insert to make the broadheads line up perfectly with the fletches.
So this morning I was curious to see if the Muzzy tips were machined exactly alike or not so I laid all my arrows down together with the Muzzy broadhead label facing up and sure enough they all lined up:rock:. Which is cool to know that once you set your arrows fletches to your Muzzy broadheads they are interchangeable. Don't know if this is common knowledge or not but I'm pretty excited to learn it.

broadhead and fletching alignment is unnecessary. I believe that is an old wives tale

Let us know if you think it makes a difference in flight.

While it won't make any difference in flight, it does look pretty cool. I may have a touch of OCD, but I don't have it that bad. So, what are you going to do if you ever switch to a 4 blade broadhead?

My understanding is it's more about making sure each arrow flys the same rather than flys better.

As far as OCD I don't think I'll be changing to 4 blade but I did buy the new arrows just because I wanted red and yellow fletches to go with my red strings and the yellow fiber optics on the HHA site. But lets just keep that between us.

I did a lot of broadhead tuning back in the day. I believe that aligning the fletch with the broadheads does indeed help. Especially when shooting with full contact arrow rests. It is something that I will always do when making hunting arrows,

Totally disagree Greg, hate to but do and I experimented with this exclusively.. what I believe happens though, is that when people align them, they are actually squaring them/seating them in the arrow square which definitely does help. As long as there is no wobble in the broadhead, the blade and fletch alignment means nada! You can't align a 4 blade or 2 blade broadhead with a 3 fletched arrow etc.. the broadhead and fletch is NOT in the same plane etc in a spinning arrow.

Worry less about alignment of fletch and blade but worry more about insert alignment to the square of the arrow. No wobble and offset or helical fletch on a matched arrow/bow set up and you'll get perfect flight.

i totally agree with, Rob. it's kind of hard to line up 2 and 4 blade heads with 3 fletch. granted 3 blade heads can be matched, do they fly better? ????? more important ismaking sure heads are aligned straight with absolutely no wobble as Rob pointed out. i also shoot muzzys and one other thing i am really picky about is making sure the ridges on the points line up with the blades, believe it or not,i seem to get a little better penetration. probably just in my head though

Well, I only shoot three blade broadheads and 3 fletch arrows. So that eliminates the 2 and 4 blade problems for me. Of course insuring a solid head seating is of number one importance. Eliminating point wobble is my first step. But since this thread was about fletch to blade alignment, I didn't mention point wobble. I believe that alignment of the fletch to blades helps tremendously with shot consistancy. I've read where it can help as much as 33%. Again, I'm shooting off of a fixed rest.

I've also read where this is not supposed to matter, however, I stand by my statement and always will.

I have heard both - line them up and some says it doesn't matter. I do in case it matters. What I do though is buy the little rubber washers (not exactly rubber but a little harder - almost plastic) from cabelas and put these on the broadhead. This allows you to turn the head to line them up without messing with the inserts. It just gives them enough play but still a solid fit.
