I am a huge fan of history.. have been since I was very young. Last night I finally convinced my wife to go and see the movie before it left the theaters and she agreed. The movie was based mostly after the book "Team of Rivals".. which I own and read a few years ago (but plan on re-reading again after seeing the movie). I just thought I would share an anecdote they used in the movie.. it was one of Lincoln's favorite and makes me laugh everytime I hear it. The scene they used it in was perfect. The movie was actually pretty funny. The story of Ethan Allen as told by Lincoln. It appears that Shortly after we had peace with England Mr Allen had the occasion to visit England, and while there the English took Great pleasure in teasing him, and trying to Make fun of the Americans and General Washington in particular. One day they got a picture of General Washington, and hung it up the Back House (outhouse basically) where Mr Allen Could see it while he relieved himself. When Mr. Allen returned, he said nothing of the picture. Finally the englishmen asked Mr. Allen if he saw that picture of his friend in the Back House. Mr Allen said yes. The englishmen then asked what he thought of its placement? Allen replied, " I think it's very appropriate for an Englishman to Keep it in there." "Why", the englishmen asked. Again Allen replied, "Their is Nothing that Will Make an Englishman S**t So quick as the Sight of General Washington."
Haha, pretty good! I'm trying hard to get my wife to go see it too, if she don't go soon, it looks like I might go check it out solo. Glad to hear it was good
Great movie. I really enjoyed it, which surprised me because I didn't expect to as I was being drug into the movie lol.
