I'm considering purchasing large SUV with higher miles for a secondary vehicle. I really like the Navigator with all the bells and whistles it's a hard one to pass up. I was wondering if any of you gents have any experiences with these SUV's. Good or Bad! Are they dependable after 100K? Are they affordable to work on? How many dead hookers can one person fit in the back? what's the gas mileage like? You know the regular go around questions involved with purchasing a new car.

My wife had a 2005 with about 80,000 miles on it. The thing was the biggest POS. For the life of me I can't remember what I had to replace on all eight cylinders, but it was about 250 bucks each time I had to do it. Coils maybe? He told me it was common with those type of vehicles.

Also, twice they had to drill out the spark plugs while replacing these things. After the last time the mechanic told me he's not working on it anymore. he said he didn't want to be the one that stripped out a spark plug after he already drilled it out once.

By far the biggest lemon I've ever owned

That must be a ford thing, as I had an expedition with same problem. my coolant leaked into the cylinders and froze 3 of them solid. I had to rebuild it then it started burning oil after another 40k. thanks for the info.

Some of the old 5.4's had head problems where the threads on the plugs would strip out and blow the plug out. Ford come up with a Helicoil repair for them but it wasn't that great.

After 2008(?) or so that was resolved and they never had any more issues with those or the coil packs.

Todd has a 2010 or 2011 Navigation with a pile of miles on it and hasn't had any issues at all.
