Yes i can use some opinions on what grain broadhead to use with my new arrows which are 6.4 grains per inch ill be shooting at 60 lbs with a 29 inch draw if that matters any. Should i go with a 75 grain with the arrow being so light? Im figuring with the arrow being so light a 100 grain or heavier might make it to front heavy. Any help here would be appreciated
BH weight is more determined by spine than grains per inch. What is the spine of your arrows? Also, "front heavy" is a good thing.
I haven't ran the numbers, but I'd bet that at 6.4 grains per lb, if you went to a 75-grain head you'd be at less than 11% FOC (front of center). Most people don't realize how much weight it takes up front to get a good 12 - 15% FOC. I actually use 50-grain brass inserts to reach that point. If you're trying to get down to something more like 300 grains since you're shooting 60 lbs., it'd be better to start with a lighter shaft -- BUT, your bow is going to be quieter and you'll more than likely get better penetration if you simply couple the correct-weight head with the shafts you already own.
bruce ill be shooting victory hv3"s @ 350 spine since my bow will be topped out at 60 lbs with a 29 inch draw
Greg i didnt realize that, I suppose ill try the FOC test with a 100 grain tip and go from there. Im concerned more about proper arrow flight then speed
I have a 29" arrow with a 125grain tip shooting at 60#'s and the spine is .400. You may want to go with a 125 grain tip and you may even be able to use those 50 grain inserts Greg is talking about.
