Well, Missouri's spring turkey season finale was today, and another good day was had in the woods. Well, in the field actually, but I digress.

A buddy of mine came out to hunt with me this morning, and he's had a rough season. No sightings and only a couple has he even heard. The birds were talking really good in the trees again this morning, and one in particular seemed to be especially in love with my RTD slate call. I could hear the lust in his voice with every gobble.

Well, they did the eastern turkey thing; flew down and shut up. Long story short, I worked this bird for over 3 hours hoping to bring him into range for Lenny. I really wanted to get Lenny a shot at that one. Well, he had to leave for Mother's Day festivities at 10:30, so I stayed put.

Long story short, at straight up noon I had the bird finally called into the field. About then, 2 black labs came streaking across the field hot on the trail of 2 does. Bye bye birdie. Game over. But man oh man, what a fantastic spring. I'm already looking forward to next season!

First hunt next year you are scoring. You HAD to have used up all the bad luck this year. It's been fun following along. You sound like you are genuinely happy with your season and that is what it is all about. Way to stay on it Mobow.

Ben I'm positively THRILLED with my season. This has been, without a doubt, the most fun and enjoyable season I've ever had. I've never worked birds as frequently, or as well, as I did this year. I saw more longbeards this year than I have in any other season.

Ya know, I have always been the 'run and gun' type when it comes to turkey hunting. But not this year. I never moved. I stayed in the same spot the entire season. I made that decision immediately upon my first miss of the year. I told my self .......I'm just NOT gonna chase these birds around the county and educate them. As long as I don't spook them, they'll be back. And they came back indeed.

I'm not going to say I'm not a little frustrated and aggravated, because I am. Missing that bird at 10 yards, and then smacking and not finding him was utterly irritating. But even that hunt was a lot of fun, and I learned alot from that big boy.

Yeah, I miss it already. I'll say it again. What a season.
