To my knowledge I'm the only person that does this, but I actually put some weight in my nock. I shoot nockturnals and they weigh 20 grains a piece. Most nocks only weight around 11. So I take just a few little bbs of shot and some super glue to put it right on the 20 grain mark. Carbon express arrows have the bulldog collar. Taking that and the nock off to replace it with a nockturnal makes it very close out of the gate. It really depends on how anal you want to get about it. lol. I made 7 arrows and they all weighed within a grain of each other, aside from the tolerance of the scale.
Another vote for Nockturnal. The Nockturnal is advertised to weight in at approx 20 grams. An average nock is about 10-12 grams so a difference of 8-10 grams on a 400+ grain arrow is negligible for most bowhunters. Also, I've heard people look at the price and say "no way, too expensive". But if you look at the cost of one arrow and broadhead, the Nock pays for itself the first time you find an arrow you wouldn't have found without using the Nockturnal nock.
Nockturnal all the way, they've never let me down seem a bit brighter compared to luminock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I use carbon express lighted nocks. I love em! Tried lumenocks first and was very disappointed with them. The carbon express work perfectly for me. Never had one not light up, and they're plenty bright. Arrows with them fly just the same as one without.
I like to practice with what I hunt with, so I make my practice arrows reflect my hunting set up. On the nocks, I insert a .177 lead pellet with just a dab of clear silicone into the inside of the nock. It is a good tight fit and weights up the end of the arrow nicely. You can trim the pellet skirt just a hair and weigh it to equal the 20 grains if you like. Lead is very easy to work with. Then add my rage practice tip and tune. Surprisingly it does make an inch drop at 20 yards. That's not much but a minor sight adjust and I have confidence that it is dead on.
By the way I shoot gold tip hunter xt with gold tip nocks. Works great on most any standard type arrow shaft.
Has anyone else had problems with nocturnals they bought this year? Mine from few years ago were finally shot so purchases a new 2 pack of red ones. A couple practice shots and both worked. Shot one doe and the knock flew off on a pass threw, which i can understand. The second one, missed a doe just high and never turned on at all. Trying to decide if I want to chalk it up to a fluke and buy another pack or switch to lumenoks or firenocks.
I am testing the Fire Nock S3 starter package right now. I got them back in the first week of October and they have worked great. They are a little pricey to start out about 60 Bucks, but you can replace the batteries in them and they are extremely easy to use. The batteries are about 10 to 15 bucks for 3 depending on where you pick them up. They activate when you shot and to turn them off you just hold them above a solid surface and drop them on the nock and it turns them off. I have the orange/red and they are really bright and easy to pick up after shooting. I would recommend them. Anyone like anything else or info?
Brant2409: used firednocks for 2 years.Spent a ton of money. PM me if they work on pass thru shots because mine never lite. I used the ez coil with extreme shock ends that you must use. Look up their web-site for more information. Went to Lumanocks can't afford a lighted nock that for me only worked when target shooting.
I like nockturnals, but ive only shot three deer with them. And two of the nocks broke, One the nock was total gone just the light in the end of the arrow. The other arrow i went to pull the nock out the end of the arrow to put on another arrow and the nock part pulled right off leaving the light part in the end of my arrow. Atleast the second one that pulled apart was lighted after shot the first one was not. I shot them at targets alot ,so i knew they held up to that but as in going through deer i havent had to much luck.
