Well I have moved on I am now pissed about the amount of money the military is paying pro sports franchises for patriotic events at games. I did find it interesting that the 2 pro sports teams in Minnesota that did not take money were both owned by Minnesota people, the carpet bagger from NJ took the tax money. I know the Packers took money btw, then again many non profits do.:)

I actually work for a utility and we are big into LED lights right now. We are in the process of getting rid of all the mercury vapor and high pressure sodium lights that are on our system. One of the nice perks of the LED light is that all the light is down-lighting and does dramatically reduce the amount of "wasted" light that the old fixtures put off.

I have found through numerous conversations that people that light to look at stars, etc love the LEDs due to no uplighting or "light pollution"

I am all for LEDs because it does promote dark skys instead of wasted light and does use less kWhs.

Like I said I live in an incorporated township out in the country, we had a mercury vapor light in the barnyard like many do. It burned out a few years ago and the power company replaced it with some kind of crappy pink light that was environmentally friendly, I hated it. Lucky it burned out quick and they replaced it again with the new LED technology I like the light color and the brightness but I also like the directional lighting the ground is lit up not the sky.

Maybe I should go shoot out my neighbors pole light so it can be replaced with that LED style......

I like the idea of LED's, but the cost is just way to prohibitive to use in most situations, just like compact florescent lights. Sure they last longer, but they cost 10X that of an normal light bulb. At least the LED's don't have the harmful materials in them that the CF bulbs do.
