I'm basically living the life of Kenny Powers.. I do what I want, when I want. I wake up at 530 to head to the gym, spend about 5 hrs at class/studying, then spend the rest of the afternoon doing what I want. Usually go for a run, shoot my recurve, go sit on the porch drinking... Lol That all changes severely starting June 2nd.
During the week I average about 2-4.5 hrs per day doing what I want. 10.5 hrs per day are work related and loathing every second. The other time is spent doing chores/household stuff that I don't consider liking or disliking. 62% doing stuff I hate 12-26% doing stuff I like 12-26% doing stuff that's indifferent.
I stay up late so I'm probably in the 20% crowd during work week...however if working either of my part time gigs (which I love both) it's jumps up some! I would guess my weekly rate is like 35% to 40% of the time I'm doing something I enjoy or at worst don't dislike.
Man, I can't believe how many of you hate most of your life ...I spend so much energy teaching my kids that it's all a blessing as we have the ability to do all we do ... I feel alone on this one...anyone else with me here??? LOL
This. I like my job. Is it what I WANT to be doing. Hell no. Do I hate driving to and from work? No. Is it what I want to be doing? Nope. I enjoy helping my kids with their homework. Is it what I want to be doing most of the time? Nope.
Yeah, Brad and Hook nailed it. I think if we all were doing exactly what we wanted, most of you wouldn't have families, and we would be in the woods or on the water. I don't HATE my job. I don't love it, either. Most of my life outside of work is less stressful even when it's not necessarily 100% what I want to be doing.
It all works together ... why would you even think about not liking, kinda liking, whatever liking? Work makes hunting BETTER. Homework with the kids better be looked at as gold as one day you will be wishing you were doing it, and at times, more than hunting...it all works together....it's ALL good.... Someone give me an amen....wow!
Right now I'm working. I WANT to be working up a food plot. Later I am taking my daughter to her pitching lessons, and while I enjoy watching her grow and be successful, I really don't want to sit there and listen to her pitching coach for an hour. After that I'll probably be mowing the grass. I wish my grass was turf so I didn't have to burn up my time to mow grass just so it can grow back again. By the time I get done with that, it will probably be dark so I'll head in and try and relax for an hour or so before heading to bed. I'd rather the sun still be up so I could get back to those food plots. See how this works, I'm not saying I hate any of it, but ideally I'd rather be doing something else most of the time. Hunting, food plotting, coaching, traveling, shooting, photography, ect...
It depends on the day. Some days I pretty well do what I want, some days I don't get to do anything I want.
I can't put a % on it. I love the challenge and the pressure of my job when it's going. Not so much during the lull in between. Case in point, today. I enjoy coaching my kids t-ball team during the week. And I love to sit back and watch a movie with the boys or a Netflix show with the Mrs. I'm not sure that I would enjoy my life if I got to do exactly what I wanted all the time.
This time of year (seasonal businesses) I have about 45 minutes to an hour to unwind or do what I want. Comes out to .058% by my calculations.
I wish i was turkey hunting right now as my season opened today. Instead I am at work. Only will be hunting the afternoons which suck.
I want to be fishing this morning, instead I'm reading a 209 page document on Toxic Release Inventory.
My students are working on a project right now. I wish I was fishing. So I bought a new flyrod/reel instead:D
