Good luck Phil. I'm doing it as well. Full time career, kids, house maintenance, and going to school. It's a lot. My only advice is to not be too ambitious with school. What I mean is don't try and be a superman taking as many classes as you think you may be able to squeeze in. Take your time, do it right, and rock out each one. Trust me, I've been there. Congrats on the decision also. It will be a very rewarding adventure.
Right choice bro, i havnt had near as much time in the woods the last 2 years because of school, but in the long run itll work out. Plus, it gives you a good excuse when people ask why you dont kill monsters.
I was goon to school full time with unemployment benefits for a little over a year. I finally made the decision to go back to work as the income wasn't cutting it any more. In that decision I had to drop classes this semester. I will be starting back up next fall part time and then continue on through to the end. I quit high school and a few years later earned my GED. It was a while before I started wanting to go to college and after 8 years of wanting to start and 15 years since I dropped out, it wasn't a walk in the park. It wasn't the hardest thing I have started either though. It isn't easy but, you can do it, after all you are a bowhunter!
Thanks Sticks I appreciate the encouragement. At this point all I need is my first college to get my transcripts over to the University and I'll be able to get registered in order to start this summer.
I went back at age 59 just for the fun of it. It took me a whole semester to get back into the "How to learn and study" thing. Of course I was only taking one to two courses at a time trying to become a little more computer literate. In all I took 15 courses from A Plus to Cisco classes. It was fun. Never really used it... but I did it. LOL I got my certified Fiber Optics Installers Certification. Don't ask me why. I just did it to do it. Took the test and passed first time out of the gate. Got a few Microsoft certifications. Just saying... don't know how long you've been away... but it gets easier after a semester or so. Much easier than when I was a teenager. Reading was slow at times. I'd find myself starting over and decide a break was needed. LOL Attention deficit I guess. LOL Although... you're heading down a little tougher road and will have to juggle a lot more. I had sold my business and had nothing to do except breath and drink coffee. My wife was still teaching school so I had all kinds of time alone in the house to study and read.
Tony and David thanks! I've been away from school for 8 years. Part of the reason I wanted to get into the summer semester was I thought it would make for an easier transition back into school than in the Fall.
First off I've been away from the site for about a week taking the finals to finish up my first semester back in college. Just to update, for anyone interested, I took 3 classes for 7 hours. 2 of the classes (Intro to Criminal Justice and US History Since 1865) for general education requirements and 1 class (Intro to Two- and Three-Dimensional Modeling) degree related. Wait for it >BAM< straight A's. Super excited and just thought I'd share. Now I get a nice 1.5 week break before the Fall Semester starts.
