    I have a small 1/8 acre deep woods throw and grow with turnips food plot surrounded by hinge cuts, and i just planted an apple tree. I want more movement by the bucks, how and where should i make a licking branch/mock scrape, if i even should.

    Find an existing licking branch and move it to within 15yards of your stand. If done right, every buck that enters that plot will at least check out that branch if no human scent is on it. Make it stick out like a sore thumb. Good luck.

    I personally would not use screws. I'd lash it on. Then spray it down with Scent eliminator.

    I just take a stick from the area and scuff up the ground.

    You could just kick you boots into it a bit. Or get a stick.

    Top cutting trees are an excellent way to encourage more licking branches in and around plots...I'll be sharing this in a future video or write up with pictures on my site very soon! I've never transplanted licking branches with lashes or screws but heard of others having success with them. I always look for low hanging oak branches and start raking the ground under them and if you have some pre-orbital gland put a little on the branches or even some vanilla just to get them going on it has worked.

    I started a mock scrape in one of my food plots last year. It is on a you oak tree, only about 10-12ft tall. I sprayed the branch w. Tinks power scrape. Not sure what the results would be, but since I didn't have any pre-orbital gland scent I gave it a try. It worked just fine, and I have been getting pictures of bucks on it ever since.

    I would say that they do prefer certain trees over others, but I have found them on oak trees, cedar trees(they seem to really like these), and even on a couple hedge trees. I haven't seen any on the many, many, many thorny locust trees I have on my place though :(

    So going off of the original post since I know nothing about this subject and was considering trying something new this year;

    (complete newby with scrapes)

    1. what are you guys spraying on the branch/ground and what exactly is this supposed to do?
    2. is this something you guys do all summer and fall or just certain times of the year?
    3. do you guys hunt over these areas or just another tactic to bring bucks into the area?

    Sorry not trying to hijack your thread.

    This is what I put on the licking branch...

    Smokey's Deer Lure - Home of the Original Preorbital Gland Lure!

    I've also used Tink's Power Scrape and I will also put some buck and doe urine in the scrape as well. Closer to the rut I will start putting doe in estrous urine in my mock scrapes.

    You can do the licking branch starting in the summer, but I usually wait until closer to the fall to make the scrape under the branch.

    Some folks hunt over them, but it seems most use them for trail cameras as well as trying to lure bucks into a certain area.
