This thread is awesome.. best 7 minutes of forum mayhem I've read in a while. Kudos to you bros on that.

I have to say.. the comparing a dog to a human thing is the best part. Kudos to that irrational rationale. You're special.

I don't know that I buy that. Maybe some will still complain, but I think most just want things to be "equal". Gays wanting to be married aren't fighting with the churches, they are fighting with the law makers. If the word "marriage" is replaced in our law books with another word (lets just use "hitched" in this example), and same sex couples are also allowed by law to be "hitched", I think that would appease most people who support gay "marriage".

The Pharisees tried to nit and pick with Jesus... "What is the greatest commandment?" "Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, was His answer AND (not or) love you neighbor as yourself." We're back to apples and oranges again from yesterday... it is a far cry from wanting to execute people to simply wanting the sanctity and Holiness or marriage in a society to be upheld. Christ never called for the execution of anyone in the New Testament and neither do any Christians today that I am aware of. Real Christians don't hate anyone... even the vilest offender, of which I am chief. Man, we struggle through life the same as any one else... living a life of holiness is downright impossible for us, the same as it is for anyone else. But we don't quit trying... we don't just say lets let almost anything go because it's too tough. We don't judge people without first judging ourselves. No one is judging here... no one is condemning here... Maybe it's the semantics of the name... non Christians have been getting married long before Christ... and will always get married. Great point Vito

So why is it any more right or wrong to acknowledge the unuion of two atheist than it is two gays? Because... only a hetero sexual marriage meets the definition set forth by scripture... in Genesis... For this reason shall and man leave his father and mother and cling unto his wife... Before we go there... he first caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and made "a woman" for the man out of his flesh because God saw that it was not good for man to be alone. So he made a suitable helper for Him.

Since the beginning of time however, men have rebeled against God's rules and God executes His own punishment on those who commit acts of deviation. His wrath belongs to Him alone... But... Christians... still want as much as possible, to protect our children from anything that will increase the likelihood that they will be included in with God's righteous judgment against all sin. We hold an incredible belief that His judgment will be severe and it will be swift and it will be eternal. Ignoring that inevitability is what many would call "tolerance." Recognizing it and fighting against it... many of the posters here are equating to "hate." And this crazy cycle continues.

I am paraphrasing, but Jesus said something along the line that is was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to get to heaven. Jesus is the saviour of all mankind and the world, not just the good ole USA. On world standards, all americans are rich...very rich. Based on your assessment, why should any american be a christian for his pathway to eternal life is slim to none based on what Jesus himself said.

Also, you guys that keep quoting Leviticus from the Old Testamant are kind of picking and choosing. The penalty for adultry was death, you couldn't eat shellfish or pigs, a woman was unclean during her menstruation cycle and was not allowed at the tabernacle,,etc. etc.. I thought Jesus replaced the old laws.

But for argument sake, lets say that being gay it the ultimate sin to God and they will all burn in eternal hell. That has nothing to do with a secular government (separation between church and state) and a contractual agreement between two adults. Forget all the stupid arguments of a man and his dog (dog has no say and is not human) or incest ( we know what the negative repurcussions are to the offspring). If two guys choose to do the nasty with each other and want to commit to life to continue to do so, it doesn't affect anyone but them.

I am a christian. I do not want my church to recognize gay marriage within the church. But I fully support gay marriage from a legal standpoint and have no problem using the word marriage in that context. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion...this is mine.

The bible isnt the basis for my everyday life...maybe when i was 12 and HAD to go to church. The bible does have a very large influence on this country and society though...obviously. We WERE founded by leaders who believed in Deism, and were escaping religious persecution so they could practice in there own way. Thats just fact. So GOD does have a place in this country...whether the Kings James bible is his actual manual...that i do not know sir.

We surely weren't created by a big bang.

At the same time, professor Louis Leakey proved humans have evolved over the years...

So in summary, some of you will stop calling for the execution of gays if they agree to call it a "civil union" and not a "marriage"?

I don't think there has been one person here that has stood out against the government allowing a legal union.

I know this is in jest, but where has anyone mentioned euthanizing all gays? I realize going to extremes helps prove a point, but thats mainly why the sides are so polarized to begin with.

Why would you even post that? Nobody on here has had that mentality. We have just tried to explain or argue about the reasoning behind our position. Are we allowed to have our opinions and beliefs the same way we allow gays to have their beliefs, or have we gotten so tolerant of their position that we are intolerant of anyone with an opposite view point?

Should we start killing fat people too? We'll need a bible ruling on this. Isn't there something about gluttony?
