No, right now a Lutheran can not marry a catholic in the catholic church. A Muslim church won't marry anyone. Is freedom that hard to understand?
How about insurance? My wife works for a Catholic hospital. They pay part of her insurance. Will they now be required to insure the spouse of a gay marriage or can they say the worker must get a single plan. After all, they are paying for it and it goes against their teachings and those teaching have a constitutional right. This has nothing to do with freedom. They can be gay. No one is saying they can't or that it should be illegal. The argument is about marriage and the benefits that go with it.(that you and I pay for) Last time I read the constitution it didn't mention anything about gays marrying. For that matter, it doesn't mention a womans right to murder her unborn child either. sent from my samsung note 2
Read your post #95. You may not be condoning incest but it sure looks like you said it should be legal :what: sent from my samsung note 2
If they hire a person who is gay, then their insurance would cover the spouse if in that state gay marriage was legal. The Catholic Church has giving good healthcare to their gay priest, who molested boys for years. So I don't buy the moral issue with the Catholic Church on this one.
Ok, then make it a babtist hospital. Not a moral ground. It's a fundamental teaching of their religous belief. I disagree . They wont have a right to not hire on the grounds of being gay (thats where this is going) then they will be required by law (obama care) to provide them with insurance. So much for the first ammendment. sent from my samsung note 2
Because a man marrying his daughter can result in deformed offspring. Are freaking serious. Consenting adults? It's their freaking child. A parent has much influence over their child. sent from my samsung note 2
Thats just it. They will not be able to deny employment on the grounds of being gay if this keeps going the direction it's going.(I have no idea if they do now) I have no idea if it's even an issue at this point but if they have to support it financially, it will become an issue. This isn't as simple as some make it out to be. sent from my samsung note 2
I don't know why I read these threads. I have a low enough opinion of most people in here, reading this makes me want to hit ignore for all but about 6 guys.
Exactly how is the first amendment being tarnished here? Can they not still practice their beliefs in their church? If they hired a gay person and I am willing to bet some have, I bet they are insuring them now, what's the difference .
To steal a quote from Kinky Friedman, a Texas author and Humorist who ran for Governor a few years back when he was asked if he supported gay marriage, he said absolutely, let them be miserable like the rest of us.
Actually it does. The same logic has always been used when dealing with human rights. No one is saying you can't be black or a woman, we are just saying you can't own land or vote.
So if a church hospital employees an atheist and insurance them and their spouse, is that stomping on their first amendment? FYI just because an idea does not follow the conservative modern day doctrine does make it liberal. I realize any idea not fitting a certain point of view is considered liberal, but years later it was viewed as the right thing to do. Women voting, liberal idea when introduced Civil rights, School integration Black athletes playing sports with white athletes Workers rights, those old businessman hated this, lol Now I have to prepare to watch my wolverines play for the NCAA, all you buckeye fans can sit at home with the buckeyes and watch the finals also.
