Anyone use any plot mixes that have lettuce in them? On my 1/4 acre kill plot I am going to seed it with a mix that has 40% turnips, 40% rape and 16% Black Simpson lettuce. From my research, it appears the lettuce will provide them with an immediate food source, as soon as it begins to grow.

This will be my first time planting lettuce in a plot and am curious is anyone else has any experience with it.

I guess it depends what they like. I had a vegetable farmer who begged me to hunt over his head lettuce patch every year. The deer would walk down the rows and take a bite out of every head and move on to the next one.

I haven't planted any lettuce myself but I have planted chickory which looks like leaf lettuce. My deer love it. It is fast growing so they will have a quick food source.

I seen that mix recently and was curious about what lettuce was in it. I did a search on Black Simpson lettuce and didn't come up with any useful information except that it is apparently a sweet and never bitter fast growing vegetable that looks to have succulent leaves. I wouldn't be surprised if the deer really like the stuff once they get a taste of it. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I hope you will keep us posted.

I had some left over lettuce seed from my parents garden last year and threw it on a road between two food plots, and deer loved it. It seemed to be liked over the imperial clover that was 10 yards away. Keep us posted this fall.
