Plenty of what I have noticed over the last few years has been said. The only thing I have to put more emphasis on is being aware that urban deer tend to be more nocturnal. At least for where I hunt. I see plenty of good bucks when I am scouting with my spotting scope across the road up on a high ridge, but come season time those deer only want to play after dark. I know they are still there because the farmer sees them when he turns out of his driveway (or pulls in) standing out in the alfalfa, picked corn, or bean fields. The only time I have seen a buck in daylight hours that was over 100 inches was late october to mid november. Other then that I never see big deer during daylight.. plenty of hunting pressure in my area though, along with the urban deer factor and thats probably what keeps them bedded until late.

While this may be the case in some communities, I feel that it's the exception rather than the norm. I live in Portage County Siman and hunt a couple of my neighbors properties totaling 100 acres or so. Most stands are within 300 yards of a house. While I know that's are big bucks in there, rarely do i see them outside the rut. I also hunt down in rural central Ohio and the deer are no less wary in suburban Portage County

Like I said I'm not discounting that it happens. If I moved one community over to Hudson, I could shoot deer all day long

Hudsons another one. I know 2 of the full time medics for Hudson EMS. They have similar deer stories to mine.

I'll chime in on my urban central OH deer hunting..... first off where its legal to "bowhunt" in city limits these deer receive a fair amount of pressure bc everybody in the county is driving around and seeing these (150") deer in fields and either hunting every little 2 acre place they think he will cross by or flat out trespassing. These deer know the difference between human pressure and hunting pressure. All it takes is for you to hunt the wrong wind, get busted in stand, get to close to bedding and these (150") deer turn nocturnal QUICK! They get bumped A LOT from walkers, dogs, kids, ect and have figured out where to stay safe (non hunting zones or someone who doesn't like hunting)

The celebs mentioned that walk down the sidewalk and shoot a (150"+) are also paying STUPID money to sit in someone's subdivision backyard over a corn pile and whack them. Sure if you've got more money than brains then its easy to kill record deer. Every urban place is different, these 200" deer being killed in suburb spots are far and few between and come with a price tag (why not fence hunt IMO) but who am I to judge, too each their own. Heck there's deer in the city limits by my firehouse that you could kill all day long, but the deer your walking up too aren't deer that are being hunted often/ever and KNOW they are safe. Urban deer hunting is different per parcel and size of property, there's a lot that plays into it depending on "pressure" from you and others.

Great post. I should have been more clear and stated that everything i posted about comes from personal experience where i work, and isnt a general rule.

I hunt mostly sub urban areas and/or residential areas bordering large public land and this is exactly my experience and what I attempted to say.. less eloquently :D These deer know the difference and react accordingly and as you stated they go from being very visible to ghost in a moment.
