I know there have been a couple of threads like this over the past year, but after dealing with my POS Titan for way too long, I'm on the market and planning to buy something in the next week or so. As of now, I'm leaning heavily towards an F-150 or a Tundra. I'll likely decide based on who can give me the best deal on tradein and incentives/financing. Does anyone have a 2011 F-150 or Tundra? If so, any thoughts you would like to share? I'd love to hear some opinions of the new 5.0 motor in the Fords........
One of my friends just bought a new 2011 Tundra. The thing is awesome, he got it for around 28000 loaded with the tow package and a 5.7 liter. Not sure how he talked them down so low. I would lean towards the Tundra if I were you, if I were looking for a Ford it would have to be a 250.
I have a 2004 F-150 FX4 with the 5.4 liter. If I was getting another F-150 I would go with the ecoboost, so far the word I have heard from people with them have been good. The 5.0 has been blowing the 8th cylinder in the Mustangs though the truck motor is tuned differently. There have also been some complaints with the 6 speed auto tranny. I would pick the Ford over the Toyota if I were buying another one.
have you considered dodge ram at all? I've heard their trucks are pretty decent especially with the Hemi models. I think either Toyota or Ford is pretty good, although if you are going to do heavy duty stuff I would go with an F250 rather than an F150
Man...I'd love to have one of these bad boys but my Tacoma is paid for and not giving me any problems. Good luck with your decision. My next truck will likely be a ford.
What problems are you having with your Titan? Bought mine brand new in 2007 and haven't had any issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yeah i've heard guys complain about the titans especially the older ones (2004 to about 2006). they're not the most reliable trucks out there. ford, chevy and possibly dodge and toyota have much better trucks. if i had $35K to blow off on a new truck, i'd get the ram power wagon that baby is just right for me
Matt, I didn't like the comfort of the 2011 F150s, but the 5.0 would be my choice in the F150 line. The ecoboost just seems to me like it would be spooling too much around all of the hills around here. Coming from two toyotas (current one has 109k), I would lean more toward the Tundra. However, read up on the AIP issue...something to consider.
how bout this I saw one of these in Madison once but I have no idea what they are, apart from the obvious International cab. Does anyone here know anything about them?
Where do I start........ At roughly 20k miles, I had to replace all the rotors and pads because all the rotors were trashed. The pads were barely worn. Talked to the dealer, and this was a maintenance problem according to them. Read up on it, and apparently the pads were so hard from the factory, that it was a pretty common problem. I had to pay for this out of pocket. At 25k miles, my cruise control switch crapped out. Warranty covered this. At 30k miles, the backup sonar units crapped out. Warranty covered this. At 50k miles, the drivers side front wheel bearing needed replaced. While the dealer was in there, one of the transfer case seals needed replaced. Warranty covered this. At 62k miles (now out of warranty) the rear axle seals failed. Due to design, the entire rear axle bearing assembly needed to be replaced with it. At 65k miles, my cruise control switch crapped out again. I can get it to work sometimes if I pull over, turn the truck off, punch the steering wheel in exactly the right spot, then start the truck again. This usually works till I go around a corner and have to turn the wheel. I haven't fixed it yet because it's $600 or so. At 70k miles, I had to replace the front wheel bearing. When I was in there I realized that now literally every single seal between the tranny and rear diff was leaking, including the new one that they already replaced on the transfer case. Brought the truck in for the dealer to replace the seals (just didn't have time to do this one myself) and they determined the entire transfer case is bad now. Apparently two of the three bolts holding the cover on the transfer case backed out and were nowhere to be found, and the third was in there by a couple of threads. All the fluid was gone and it must have happened recently because the oil under the truck was all still fresh. While the dealer was looking at the transfer case, they realized both exhaust manifolds were cracked. As of now, I have 75k miles on the truck. I think I'm done putting $$$ into this pile of $%)t at this point. If I had beat on it, I'd expect it but I've literally had it in 4wd maybe 15 times, and drive 99% of my miles on the highway. I'm also forgetting literally a half dozen things they did to the thing as recalls. They just did a fuel sender unit the other day, and something else, I don't remember, but it's been in 3x seperate times for recalls and almost every time they were addressing more than one issue.
I know you didn't say F-250 but I'm sure loving my 2011 F-250. I've heard good things about the F-150's as well. That ecoboost seems to be working real well, great fuel economy.
I'd go with the new F150. Not only is it the best looking truck on the market right now, but it produces 365HP, 420LBS of torque, and gets 22mph with the new 5.0 ecoboost. I rode in one and man it's comfortable. The next truck I get will be an 11-12 F150.
The 5.0 isn't the ecoboost, the 3.5 is, and it's EPA rated at 21mpg, which could possibly be a liberal estimate (most EPA estimates are). I'm still not sold on the ecoboost. I want to see the long term reports of people that live in hilly terrain hooking up to good sized loads. I think the 5.0 is the best option going right now. It's a relatively proven engine, produces solid numbers 360/380, and doesn't take much of a mpg hit from the 3.5. I just really wish Ford would do something to improve their seats. I was never so uncomfortable as I was during our 8 hour trip to Nags Head in an 11 F150. At this point, if I were going 1/2 ton, I would still be torn between Ford and Toyota. I would be 100% Toyota if it weren't for that AIP issue they've been having (and not covering). At this point in my life, I might even consider a diesel as well, but even those are becoming more car-like with each model year.
I was under the impression that the 5.0 was a new motor, with an aluminum block. The 2010's were either a 4.6 or a 5.4......my father in law has a 2010 with the 4.6.
If a truck don't have a CUMMINS in it, I'll just keep walking by until I find the one that does have a CUMMINS in it!!! My 99 Dodge Q-CAb 4x4 has 200K on it, and is getting 20-21mpg in mixed driving, and even the largest of mountains never makes me downshift unless someone in front of me has slowed down.... Head down a mountain, drop a gear and let all that compression slow you down. With all the mods I have a bout 530HP and over 1100 ft/# of torque, yet I usually only run it on a 425HP setting which is MORE than enough to jerk your head around if I so desire. Gonna have some body work done and a GRAY rhino lining done to the bottom part of the doors and the lower rockers to protect the metal and repair the rust that is typical on nearly all of these older Dodges, then I'll be ready to put the next 200k on it.....
That's all wonderful, but I don't think Matt was asking about diesels. If he was, I would have chimed in a long time ago and suggested a Duramax. But, he wasn't asking.
Well, I suppose there is SECOND best in everything..... :D Unfortunately, the truck makers have yet to build a 1/2 ton truck with a diesel in the modern era. Sure we had the Chevy 1/2 ton diesels in the 80's but they weren't overly good. Make a mid-sized diesel pick-up that'll get 25-28mpg, and you'd BLOW AWAY the competition. I think of the bunch of 1/2 ton trucks out there, I'd buy a Chevy is I had to choose because both their engine and tranny's are decent from what I've heard, and the fuel economy of all of them is about the same. Now if I were concerned about looks, I like the Dodge the best, but functionality and longevity in the 1/2 ton class, Chevy would take it.
