So I think it's finally time to put a bed liner in my truck. It's an 11' F-150, and didn't come with anything inside of it. I use the bed frequently and do haul stuff in it at least several times a month and it's starting to get scratched up pretty good. My plans are to keep the truck till the wheels fall off (would like to get 200k+ miles out of it), and want to make sure the bed doesn't rust out on me, I probably need to get it lined before the rust starts. With that said, what spray in liner have you used in the past? Are they really different? Someone sell me on this......I want to do it once and never have to think about it again even if I use it hard.
In all honesty, just nut up and pay for Line-X. I work construction and am around heavily used trucks all the time, and Line-X is the only thing I have seen that will hold up. If my truck was worth more than $4,000, I would have it Line-Xed without batting an eye. Currently, I have my bed done in Herculiner. It's a softer liner than Line-X, but it has held up okay I guess. Whenever I slide something, pieces ball up and get ripped off. Before the Herculiner, I sprayed Keystone Liner in the freshly painted bed. I roughed up everything using red scotchbrite pads and cleaned everything up with acetone, and the bed liner flaked off within weeks, so I basically wasted $300 on it. The next truck I buy, I will have Line-X done for sure.
If my Tacoma didn't have one already in it from the factory, I would opt for Line-x. I like it far better than Rhino and other alternatives.
I'm pretty sure I have rhino liner in mine. It has taken tons of abuse and is still holding up well. (minus a few gouges) When I mean abuse, I'm talking tons of rock, loading into the truck with a tractor bucket or fork lift. The guys who sprayed it did a really crappy job of finishing it because it has drips all along the bottom edges of the top rail. But my truck was never supposed to be pretty so I didn't complain. Anyhow, I wouldn't hesitate use the Rhino liner again. Edited to add: I had mine done in 2001 so I have no idea if today's rhino liner isn't as good.
I had a Rhino liner put in my truck when I bought it a couple years ago. So far I have had no issues with it. I would steer clear of the drop in bed liners.
Verbatim what I was going to post. I'd prefer Line-X over the factory plastic liner even but it isn't practical to replace it.
You should see some of the guys who tried a DIY roll-on over the composite bed's in our trucks in the early days when they were first released...yikes :D
Both Rhino and Line-X are good choices. My preference would be Line-X because it is harder than Rhino, and won't tear like Rhino can.
Anyone have experience with Bullet liners? Supposed to be made by one of the founders of Line-X and a "better" formula......just curious if anyone not affiliated with either knows more.
The first thing I did to my truck was Line-X. Premium?(shiny) is $690 for the six foot bed and over the rails. Have no problems with it and can't beat the warranty.
I have a Line-x in my 04 F-150 Matt, you are welcome to check it out. Looks as good as the day I picked it up, unlike the rest of the truck
Great question because I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I just sent a request to Line-X for a price. Will have to check out that other one too. Maybe we can get them to give us both a small discount for bringing in multiple trucks not that your local! LOL
Another vote for Line X. There mat be a product out there as good, but I've never seen it... they are time tested.
I have the Linex liner in mine as well, very good product. Chains, tiedowns, tools, dozer and scraper parts, firewood, etc...haven't had any problems. Only complaint is when I need to slide something heavy into the bed, the course friction texture does it's job too well, lol.
Line-X. There's a dealer not too far from you where I've had my last 2 trucks done. Drop it off first thing in the morning, pick it up at lunch, and you'll never look back. Cost is roughly $500 if I recall.
