I am planing on evening hunting this year until rut. After rut starts I will do a couple all day hunts during the rut then its morning and afternoon hunts rotating days. If it plays out right I will do some half day hunts going from mid day to dark and some from morning to mid day. What is your strategy?

Well most all of my early season hunts will have to happen after work, therefore they will all be evening hunts.
On the days I get to take off and on the weekends, my plan is to sit all day. Especially during the rut, I get a lot of movement mid day.
Upon reflection of last year, I should have been in the stand more. Twice I bumped a nice buck because I got out too soon or got in too late.

Well my season starts on a thur I took off til Tuesday I plan to hunt hard on one of my propertys in the early season. But to answer your question ill hunt up high on a ridge top in the am and then go down to the sweet spot in the pm.

With that being said I see more bucks in the pm during the early season

Last season I mostly hunted mornings. I just thought that is when you hunted. Now I have learned afternoons are more productive early season until rut. So thats what I am going to do. I will go out around 2:00 and stay in until 30 min after dark so there is less chance I bump a deer, doe or buck. Oh and 56 days left.

We have to shoot a doe to get our buck tag. Our season opens on saturday, so I shoot my doe opening morning and then its when ever I can get out after that. Mostly evenings after work. Most guys have better luck in the evenings, but most guys only hunt the evenings outside of the rut.

I'm going to stay out of the woods and hunt field edges in the early season as to not spook any deer, in my afternoon hunts. In the morning I have a couple stand to cut them off going to bed and can get in and out without the deer knowing I was there. About mid season I will get a little more aggressive and hunt in the woods and closer to the bedding area. Of course there are a couple stands we stay out of until rut.

Why not hunt the beds before they feel the pressure? This is my plan to harvest my big guy. If I don't get him in the first three weeks, I will back off and hunt his rub lines in the afternoons during the rut.

On a big mature buck, all's it takes is one time of blowing him out to move him to the neighbors lands

Am I the only one who is planning to score early? I did my homework and everything is ready so why should'nt I? I'll adjust as needed if it don't happen.

I am right there with you. Thats why I said I am hunting the big guy the first three weeks. I know where he is, I know when he comes and goes and I intend on getting him opening day. I am staying out of his area until then. I havent went within 120yd of the tree I will be purched in opening day afternoon in three weeks. If I don't get him in the first three weeks I have a plan "B" for the rut. Durring that time I will rotate and hunt does. I need to get rid of some of these girls to get the boys out and about durring the rut. My bucks do not have to roam very far at all too find the girls.

I've killed 2 P&Y bucks on morning hunts the first 2 weeks of October. I'm in the woods morning and evening whenever the season is open and I have time to hunt. The deer are there in the morning as well as the evenings. But some spots do work better for morning hunts, I'll admit that.

A lot of times they will stop at a secluded food plot or feed on some acorns before making their way to their daytime beds.

daylight till early morning around 10, then back in a different stand from about 12:30 till dark as many days as I can.
I can't shoot'em from my couch where I hunt is basically a pass thru to different food sources and a bedding area so I just have alot of stand locations and choose by wind and movement

What about mineral stations? I have a stand on a trail just past my mineral station. As long as everything goes right this week I will have a camera. So i gues I will know when they are coming by that stand.

Mineral sites become less used as Sept. rolls around. They will use them occasionally, but not like in the summer.
