Not necessarily, but I might think that someone who would order something like those dishes you pictured from "the best restaurant in the world" could be gay.

    :sheep:
I noticed it looked a little green It could be sheep food

Can't say those pictures make me hungry or whet my appetite in the least. In fact the one with the foam is kind of gross. Looks kind like what you might find coming out of the mouth of a drowning victim. ;)

This is what I consider righteous food...

Wagyu beef (Kobe Beef) and Japanese wild boar.

    More beef.

    mmm...

I'd take venison chops over an overpriced dish of foam anyday.

Then there's this... shiokara... I did try some.. My uncle loves the stuff. Not exactly my idea of food nirvana.

(it's really more than just the guts.. if that's reassuring at all..)

How important is food in your life? Do you consider food just sustenance/energy for the day? Or do you consider food an enjoyment/pleasure?

    sustenance
Do you actively seek to improve your cooking skills? Do you attempt new recipes often?

not really, no i'm a picky eater(meat, potatos, veggi guy)
Do you schedule things around food? Are your family gatherings centered around food? How often do you have sit down, full family dinners?

no, only when i'm working out and i'm not doing that do to my cronic headache, not really but there is always food at gatherings, well it's just my wife and i at home.... we eat on the couch
How often do you go out for dinner? What do you consider "going out" for dinner? At what standard do you hold restaurants?

1 every 2 months, less in the winter, a resturant that we can afford, good tasting food

How open-minded are you when it comes to trying new foods/flavors?

not open at all, picky eater
Would you ever take a "food vacation"? When traveling out of town, do you research the best restaurants in the area?

    no, no
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm just curious as to how important food is in other parts of the country.

to your other post.. that doesn't look good to me at all, nice presentation but it doesn't look tasty to me :)

Not a fan of molecular gastronomy?

That "foam" is actually a deconstructed shellfish :tu:

Funny I was just thinking about this a couple days ago. I think a persons opinion of food evolves and changes as they get older. When I was 20ish, food was more of an annoyance - I ate because I had to.

Now that I'm in my mid 30's I find myself looking forward to meals and thinking about what to grill at the lake this weekend. In fact, I love to eat so much that about 6 months ago I began running just so I could eat fast food and steaks. Now I'm back to "normal" BMI and I just had a big mac for lunch.

One looks like fog rising out of moss, the other looks like a poorly constructed sushi roll....neither are appealing to me.

I eat to not be hungry, thats about it...I can eat about anything, and am just as content with hamburger helper as i am pork chops or steak...

The only time I truly enjoy eating is cooking out with friends/family on the back deck, and going out for some alone time with the girlfriend. Living in a house with 5 college guys is fun but ever being alone is just a fantasy lol.

More and more.....food has become something I need v. something I "want". I still stray, sometimes pitifully. If I were just a "little" more disciplined, I'd weigh 10#'s less, right now. I'm kinda pissed I don't. Eating clean takes time; money; discipline and buy-in from your family (unless you do the lion's share of the cooking).

When I look at how many calories I burn/wk......and how much I weigh.....I see the real error in my eating habits (even though they're WAY better than they've been in a long time). I'd love to see sub-185#'s by 9/19.

I wouldn't walk across the street to eat at a "fine" restaurant.

I would probably really enjoy it. I'm always up to trying new foods. I think Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre Foods has one of the best jobs in the world.

It looks like something I found in the back of the refrigerator that I put there last month and forgot about.

I've cut out the really stupid stuff in my diet. (Oreos before bedtime or anytime for that matter, eating until I am too full, more than one soda a day) Coupled that with light running and 40-50 miles a week on the bike and I have dropped 30 pounds in the last 2 and half months.

    .......

But Christine's post makes my want to eat until I explode. You got this life thing licked Chris.:)

The pics above aren't really my thing. I do enjoy a nicely cut steak and some of Granny's twice baked potatoes over just about anything. I am also a sucker for my wife's home made pasta and garlic white sauce over shrimp.

Now that sounds like REAL FOOD.

    :sheep:
Stuff like that will never replace a nice meadow full of grass though
